    Bang for Buck

Hey guys I need to buy a new laser printer/fax/copier for work. Only needs to be black and white, and must be cheap on the consumables. Any suggestions to help a gal out please?

Any with ink containers that can be re-filled by you. (with no sharp tools required ... we know you)

    The bigger containers the better.

brother MD (i think?)series toner is 250$ from pbtech and good for 2-5000 pages. network ready.

although i saw whse stationary had some colour ones for bout 350$ new, didn't chase up consumables.

Yep, ink is the most expensive part (consumable) on a printer.

I'm on my fourth colour laser in 15 years. This one's a Ricoh multi-functional thingy. Brand new for $200 from Grays Auctions. Had it almost 5 years now. I buy the toner from a dude on eBay.com for 15% of the OEM stuff. They even give you the instructions for the non-refillable cartridges.

As soon as a consumable part, like a transfer belt, needs replacing; it's gone for $1 reserve on TM and I buy another new one.

Best advice, always buy new. They're very cheap. Kick out as soon as something needs changing.

Mine's a Canon LBP 6300dn and it's fast and reliable. Of course having a son-in-law who works for Canon does help...

+1 on Brother lasers. We've got a couple (one printer, one MFC) and they've been reliable and economical

How much do you want to spend Mom?

From time to time I am able to get hook ups from suppliers and by that I just mean discounts... the printer I currently use at work is great, it also does automatic duplex which saves me a f*ck load of time and paper.

+1 to the Brothers for the entry level of town. I wouldn't write off the inkjet's so quickly either. In the low end of town, the inkjet's will be cheaper to run (used to be the other way around long ago).

Another +1 for Brothers, they are cheap and reliable. That is all we run at work apart from service plan photocopiers.

Given up on HP, Epson, Lexmark.
