Get some HRC parts and you'll get that thing singing!
Yeah, that looks familiar. I'm still not sure why I associate that big black stripe with the military though.

I'm thinking HRC pistons, conrods, valves, wiring loom etc, but it won't be for a while. I'm still paying the thing off and the wife will kill me if I tick up an engine rebuild.

How bout a decent porting job? may cost a bit but you gains would be huge. Even a bump up of compression will help:-0

Porting can be a waste of time unless you have a flow bench. Had my gsxr1000 ported by hand when i had some other engine mods done, looked grouse. 164 hp at wheel ( 04 model). Bike dropped a valve rooted my nice ported head so i replaced it with a stock one and gained 6 horsepower!! Cost me a shit load to get it done to. Spoke to a head pro in Christchurch and he reckons most modern bike heads are fine from the factory. Tend to agree now!!
I was running total loss on gixxer along with roller starter, and used a 12 cell USA made anti gravity battery. 12 laps around manfield no sweat .Would last longer on your 650. More cranking amps and im pretty sure they are lighter than the shorai equivalent. Not bagging shorai but there other options. Do some research on them. Expensive and you will need the special charger ( about $65 ) but i have had no problems what so ever and highly recommend them. Cheers.

Yep for sure, WRT porting you go to the experienced fellas and pay for the performence. The ER650 head was a glorified 2hp air compressor.......needed heaps taken out, also cams and compression are all linkaged. Honda heads tend to be very plane jane, and with raising teh comp it will only get better.

We have found my stand alone batt charger was F56ked so the batt had no chance
