    Coroners - no brainer call

Wellington Coroner calls for hi-viz to be compulsory for cyclists. Lets hope he doesn't get any ideas about motorcycles.

'Turning to the issue of hi-vis clothing it is in my view a no-brainer. It should be complulsory for cyclists to wear at all times when riding in public.''

    Yes... well be next.

I think they should have to wear scuba gear.

The wet suit would stop skin abrasion should they fall off.

The mask would stop insects getting in their eyes.

The flippers could be painted orange to attract attention.

The snorkel would allow them to breath fresh air from above the pollution level.

And in five years we could trumpet the fact that we are killing no cyclists on our roads. While ignoring the fact that there are no cyclists on our roads.

More fucked in the headness from the coroner

High visibility gear should be compulsory for cyclists

Yeah sure you'll say cyclists are lycra wearing men who like shaving their legs and having orgies with each other in public, but guess who's next on the coroner's (and therefore the media's) hi-vis wank-list. No, not the trannies at hunter, us motorcyclists.

The coroner should have ECT - now that's a no brainer.

We should all make gear out of Bubblewrap, No.8 wire and duct tape. That'll satisfy the coroners.

Gotta love how its the cyclists that have to change. Lets not worry about the drivers not paying attention to the road or anything...

Yeah, saw that on the TV news. Wank Wank Wank wrap the world in cotton wool.

Maybe they should make cars with less sound deafing, more uncomfortable so the drivers are more on edge and aware of their enviroment.

Modern cars are so well appointed they are often better than your living room!

Or just limit all vehicles to 100k. Should make for an interesting cycle into work.

that would be good. particularly if it was like an on/off switch. 100km/h or zero.

It's about subconcious risk assessment not visibility and if a driver doesn't respect a bike rider now then their not going to respect them anymore just because they got some new homo colours.

A no brainer huh,,,,well with that type of "non thinking" we really are buggered.

Hell I get wankers open car doors on me when I'm driving a big yellow and red 20 tonne truck.
The no brainer theory says they would of seen it.

If they'd actually looked to begin with.

Maybe I should paint it Redder,,,yeah that'll make the fuckers look.

Beginning of the end, but it wont help. NO amount of hi viz can protect you from the road users that, dont look, forget the road rules, dont realise what the intersection involves, that are so concentrating on their own trip they dont even realise they are going through intersections, dont know the road rules, dont give a shit about the road rules, forgot to look, never look, are doing their nails, talking on the phone, texting, need I gp on?

I have taken to wearing fluro. Never thought I would, but, I thought it might help being TEC on our rides. It does not help, for every man and his mate wears fluro now.

I have had a near experience just this weekend gone, in my car. If fuck knukle did not see me in my big red car, then I am fucked on my bike.

    Just be aware.

Diet coke certainly should! Chemicals in that shit will kill you faster.

Coke should simply come with a warning that drinking it in excess is not good for your health.

I reckon I should stop breathing, drinking and eating. I can not, not, take my pills, for that WILL ensure I will die.

What am I to take them with? I am going WINE

That's interesting reporting from Stuff because the NZ Herald article states the cyclist was wearing reflective stripes on his back pack and clothing and had the bikes lights on front and rear.

Also the Herald cites the truck driver as being too far to the left of the lane which caused the cyclist to be struck.

Stuff does however mention the councils need to further address the road environment as they hadn't done enough for cyclists safety.

And yet, they're making a big issue about hi-vis.
