Round 2 Track Day by Daniel Phillipson
We arrived at the track about 8.00 am. It was a bit foggy but that cleared up quickly. It was going to be my first time riding at Taupo so I was keen to get out there and see what the track was like. We’d had the bike worked on since the last meeting, so it was time to see how it was running.
Session 1-
I went out slow to see what the track was like, didn’t try too hard for my first time. It was just mainly to go out and see what it was like and get my lines.
Session 2-
I went a bit faster this time and got past some people, but they passed me down the straights because they had faster bikes. I ran off the track once because I was going too fast into the corner but didn’t fall off.
Session 3-
I went out at the back to see how many people I could past and got past 4 or 5 people I think. It was harder than I thought because some kept passing me down the straights, which is frustrating because I did all that work to get past them, then they get you straight back.
Session 4-
I went out and tried to do the same and get past as many people as I could. I had a bit of a moment just after point 4 where I ran off the track and was about a metre or two from hitting the tyre wall but saved it.
Session 5-
I was getting faster every time and getting past people and staying in front. I was getting later braking and faster corner speed now that I was used to the track.
Session 6-
I pushed the bike harder and felt like I put some good laps down. The bike was working fine as well, which was good because it went faster.
