Many years ago I saw a movie of Neville Shute's book, "On The Beach" (Nuclear disaster and end of the world scenario). The last place to be wiped out was Orstralia (makers didn't know NZ existed of course).
One scene that has always stuck in my memory was some old boys club in Sydney or somesuch hearing that their end was mere days away. They were aghast. "Two weeks? How the hell do they expect us to drink up all the Port in the cellar in that time eh what? Not good enough! Better get started right away I suppose! Haw haw haw."

Mega disasters seem to only hit LA or New York, I think we are pretty safe here...so long as Peter Jackson doesn't read War of the Worlds.

...one of them there things came to visit us off Banks Peninsular some years back...a huge boom was heard by most that were outside at the time...was no actual technical info available as no-one has figured out what or from whence it came...then as some will recall we had one enter the atmosphere over Canterbury that made me think Lyttelton or Chch had been nuked, from where I was on the peninsula...I'd rather not contemplate the vastness of our futile nothingness here on our wet rock...too many bikes to keep going...
