Move to the country - dial up internet!

So the wife, son and I recently moved outta town to a nice wee 2 acre block with just enough room to make a little bike track for young son and his pw50... And me n mum on a DR200 to chase him.

Its great, we love the peace and the dark night sky full of stars we remember from our small town childhoods.

We were quite shocked by how dial up struggles to even load a web page now...once, before broadband we were able to get by with dial up but now, with broadband, wifi etc we realise how dependent we've become just for everyday stuff like banking, shopping, communication with freinds and family...

We were on a broadband waiting list that was to promote us to broadband connection in March but somehow Telecom managed to grant the whole road full speed. Its as fast as it was in town.

We actually enjoyed being back in the dark ages except when trying to log onto the bank site!

Ah ... the sacrifices you have to make for the peace and quiet of the countryside ... that's what the stars are for ... turn off the copmuter and go outside and enjoy all the reasons you moved ..

We live in view of the sky tower "if I stand on the roof" and we can't get broadband.

Which means we have a lap top for things like watching video or doing the banking, doing battle on Trade Me,,,,or any thing else where speed and not dropping out counts.

I don't like Telecom very much.

What is this cabinet you speak of? I hadn't noticed any contractors lurking 'round the roadsides lately.

That's the rural paradox...everything is available at a good price - if you're a cocky...

We've got fiber optic cable running past the front gate but to connect would cost squillions....the local school had it connected (govt initiative) but to my knowledge haven't been able to afford to use the connection yet.
