How much noise did the smoke alarm make?

None. It didn't go off. Despite the entire house being filled with fumes.

    Useless piece of shit.
Our one is linked to the main alarm, I couldn't for the life me remember the code on the keypad with all the bloody noise!
The siren is above the keypad (and outside) ... had to shoot downstairs and get earmuffs.

But wasn't that great game of cricket?..

The cricket was great. But I nearly died of smoke inhalation.

Get that sorted! Smoke alarms are horrid things. The cheap ones tend to alarm when you dont want them to (poor placement) and then "chirp" when they need batteries. How many homes have smoke alarms and no batteries in them I wonder?

I have had alarms in houses that went off after you had a shower if you please. Grilling chops what can I say.

We inherited this alarm system, it has a few sensors about the place. I have burned the odd thing and it has never gone off before. This time obviously, it was an incidious burn that was worth the alarm sounding

I am happy, at least we dont have it monitored or we would have had the firemen on our doorstep to put out my beans

Very, very happy with the alarm.

Smoke alarms are cheap as chips! I sell them but can't compete with the Warehouse and KMart of course. We supply Photoelectric which seems to be the better type for most homes.

Yeah, they sure are. But they most certainly need to be installed sensibly. We have lived here for nearly 10 years. I cook. I burn things. Obviously not enough to set off smoke alarms...

But this time no smoke, no smell of burning, and we are deafened! Yes, an over flow in the oven that was harmless, but so, so reasuring.

Hopefully you give placement instructions with your alarms, so your customers are not subject to constant false alarms.

The two types are ionisation and photoelectric. Photoelectric are now recommended by he Fire Service and it's getting hard to find ionisation alarms now.

Placement isn't critical but if on the ceiling or wall place a minimum 6" from the "corner" where wall meets ceiling as there is a dead spot there. One close to the kitchen area and one outside the bedrooms as a minimum is better than none at all.

i think you'll find the fuller terminology to be "ionising radiation" - which is actually illegal in NZ but has been ignored for decades. they're mostly the el cheapo (bunnings et al) chinese shitters.

    mmmmm radiation sickness and cancer.....

The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

True, the main reason for getting rid of them was for disposal reasons. Even though the amount of radioactive material was minute it still posed a problem as to recycling/disposal. Each alarm, though, has to meet the relevant standards to be sold here. I'd be interested in a Firefighter's opinion on them.

A good reference as to the different types and how they work and which one to have in each area.
