Attack on two fronts

First time for everything...

Heading through a four way intersection this arvo, controlled by give way signs...on the OTHER roads - ie I had ROW. (Never bank on that.)

I approach with caution (as is my habit after learning the hard way many years ago). Dude appears from the left - at speed and obviously not really looking too hard. I see him coming and prepare to evade. He sees me eventually and slams on the brakes and stops. "Ahhh" thinks I "I can proceed!"

Not so. Just then some other loony comes from the right hand side of the intersection displaying all the same signs of not looking for traffic. So I repeat the preparations for evasion. He too wakes up eventually and slams on the brakes. Manages to stop half way through the intersection.

At which point I become ever so slightly annoyed, activate the Stebel warning device, slow to a walk and proceed to give both drivers the verbals (not repeatable on a family website like this one.) Pointed at the Give Way sign, inviting drivers to have vision checks and enquiring of them as to the veracity of their parenthood. Liberally garnished with choice expletives...

Probably make no difference but I felt better anyway.

First time I've had to weather a double attempt at vehicular homicide.

I realise you would be pissed. But there is probably little point in delivering the verbals.

Takes them from the mindset of 'shit, I almost hit that guy! (and I was in the wrong too! Bloody hell) and puts it into the mindset of 'fu*#en arsehole bikers - think they own the damn road - should of run the prick over'

Not sure that is a win really.

In a situation like that, I would put my foot on the rear brake and play pointsman for 20 seconds, then proceed when the intersection is clear.

Tell ya a story

Guy I know was out on the water in his boat, it's about 30 feet long, white, he is tied to another smaller boat fishing with his 6 year old daughter and wife sleeping in the cabin. Mid afternoon, nice day. Middle of the channel going over to waiheke from auckland so it's not like it's a quiet piece of water

So he sees a 100 footer coming at him, thinks the usual "all of the ocean and this bastard is going to go right by me, typical". So this thing gets closer and closer then suddenly the "oh shit" of what was about to happen dawned on him. The 100footer finally sees him and swings but too late, crunches into the back of him sandwhiching the 14 foot alloy boat tied behind, wipes the ass end of his boat out; horribly twists and buckles the alloy 14 footer so that's taking on water. He saw it about to happen so threw himself away from where it hit as well. Complete carnage, could of killed them all.

But it didn't end there. The gin palace kinda ambles along a minute heading away, stops, someone checks the front damage on it. Then they nail it pushing both motors to the floor to get away. In the end a police helicopter was dispatched to catch them, it's a very wealthy family and they were piss drunk. So not content with almost killing everyone they do a runner and now it's going to court to. The guy they hit holds a skippers licence so it's not going to end well for them I don't think.

So all in all never trust any cunt when you put a steering wheel in front of them. No matter what it is or how much room they have to use it.

Nah, full face helmet of course. Black visor though so they couldn't tell I was just a silly old man on bike designed for people 1/3 my age...

HOWEVER! Being of Italian extraction, I am also adept at non-verbal communication...like...

I got warned about people like that when I done my boat masters. Had a few close calls like that my self as well. Never ceases to amaze me the amount of people that pass by you while you are anchored within meters going flat tack. But then I suppose thats what happens when you let idiots loose with things they have no formal training on. God only knows even when you do train them, they are still useless as shit. Gotta love society.

If you're ever in Glasgow and feel as though 2 attacks whilst riding just aren't enough, then I can direct you to a couple of double roundabouts. They're fookin doozy's and were part of the bike test. Choosing a line and closing ones eyes seems to work well I find.

True. The fact that I was on the bike was irrelevant really. If I'd been in the wagon my reaction would have been the same. What got me was the speed with which both these cars approached an intersection where they were subject to a Give Way sign. Just crazy stuff no matter who you are or what you are driving or riding.

Obviously, neither driver gave a thought to the safety of other road users. How un-fucking-usual.
