The Commando has' steel tank and covers'.....and "Mikuni Carb Upgrade"...... " akront rims" .....
First thing I would do is toss the Jap carb " upgrade" and fit some new Amal 32's and original filter.,,,don't want no stink'n japanese parts on my
Commando.![]()

Assuming you could afford new carbs after buying it.... Those prices are eye watering...
That Maico would be tempting at not much less than rrp.
But if I bought it I'd have to ride it, which means I'd have my nose rubbed in the fact that it's nowhere near as quick as either my memory or my 525.
Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon
I quite like the Indians and some of the Harley Hyphen Davidsons. Particularly the bakers van one. Not enough to go into debt again to buy it though.
and some of the vintage dirtbikes.
Today I learned you could buy a parallel twin Indian.

I know of someone who has (or maybe had) an early 1970's dirtbike with a two stroke engine badged Indian. I'd quite like to take one of those to the national rally.
Imagine the money you could make if you had the Harley hyphen Davidson bakers van at the HOG rally, and were selling donuts and bacon sandwiches out of it. Pay for itself in a week.

Sportsters generally but particularly Nightster, 48 and XR1200. I dont like bling for blings sake so that dark custom line works for me. Rather a 1200 than an 883. I would love an XLCR or an XR1000.
The Billy bike from Easy rider.
Any XR750 including the one at McIver and Veitch.
In that list that 1960 DuoGlide gets me all excited (though quite blingy). A WLA or WLC might be nice. (Particularly if all cafe'd up)

I've got miserly tourettes and I don't give a fuck.
Bought as an investment only....surely?...some of those would be trailered to a show twice a year and spend the other 363 days under a sheet in the garage.
with bank deposit rates so low, if you pick wisely and look after your investment I reckon you could do bloody well out of it.
Five years ago I wanted to use $30k (off our mortgage so cost of money etc) to buy a fleet of classic Jap bikes before prices went mental. All the ones I picked would have at least doubled in value. Could I convince SWMBO? Like fuck.

I spent all my yoof money on shitbox cars and motorcycles.....should have bought a run down villa in Grey Lynn......
I bought my Ducati in sydney in 1987 for about 5K NZ.....the terrace house next store sold for about 70K nz......I'm guessing it would be over a mill now. I take the Ducati out the odd time.....you cant do that with a house...
I don't think you should buy motorcycles purely as an investment. They were built to ride maaannnnn......
