As a scooter rider I'm riding down the road and there's this cyclist coming towards me on the other side of the road and cars will swing right over the white line and into MY lane to avoid hitting him/them.
As a solution I reckon they ought to make a law that says that if a cyclist wants to ride on the road, that they should have a right mirror, so that they'll be able to see what's coming up behind them and they'll have time to manouver THEMSELVES out of the way instead of US having to do it for them!
Fact is that they already get their OWN piece of the road for FREE, so why can't they just stay in it! After all they don't need a licence or have ACC levies to pay and I'd say that bugger-all of them own property and pay for the upkeep of the roads out of THEIR rates. I heard (just lately actually) they've been moaning about scooters wanting to share THEIR lane. Hell if it's only a 50 whassa big deal, it's not that much faster than a cyclist anyway!
I ride a Honda FJS600 Silver Wing Maxi-scooter that does 0-100 in 6.3 seconds and she'll do 116mph with 2 up. As there were only 3 ever imported to NZ they are often mistaken for being a Suzuki 250 which has a similar body shape. She may LOOK like a step through, but she handles just like a motorbike and truth is that she's actually faster than some of them Harleys and it sure makes you wonder why anyone would want one of them. I heard some of them are actually made by Honda these days anyhow.
I reckon that owning a Harley was cool in the 1950's when only 1 fella in the whole country had 1. Now you have to get up real close because some of them aren't Harleys at all but are only lookalikes.
