Good place to get a chain for my GN250?

I think my chain has had it. I keep having to adjust it so often cause it keeps getting way too loose, just seems ridiculous. Further to that, it appears to be rusting. This should probably be blamed on the time I cleaned it cause it was so "icky" with degreaser in a can. Oh well... it's never had its chain changed anyway I guess. Where do I get a good chain/what am I meant to be looking for? I guess I want the chain and sprocket set, or whatever. My flatmate said he will help me (read, he will be forced) change my chain, don't really want to pay someone to do it cause I guess it's not necessary is it really? Anyway, where? price?!

LUBE YOUR CHAIN... you should LUBE every time you fill up with gas. Or every time you check tire pressure... about once a week at least.

I don't think so, I think it already has too much lube, hence why it spits it all over my tyre rims, or wtf they're called. I've been told it's plenty lubed by a few guys. Har, har. But really, I have.

Would it be cheaper/just as good whatever I get on trademe as what a bike shop would sell me?

...your sprocket, either fore or aft does not need replacing unless it needs to be...dont get naively fucked up on shit like this...easy to find out if yer cogs are fucked...

not to be rude, but Ill be forward, you dont seem to know fuckall about the mechanical side, take it to a bike shop and get them to fit it for ya too. a chain for a GN is not going to be real expensive anyway

You mentioned it was rusty = symptom of lack of lube. Then you said you used degreaser on it... which removes lube.

Little tip: avoid the 'degreaser in a can' and clean your chain with an old toothbrush and a little jar with some turpentine in it. Remove the key to avoid accidents and mark a link of your chain with a sticky label or something so you know when you have been round it. I also like to get an old spray and wipe bottle with turpentine in it - after brushing use the spray bottle to 'rinse' the dirt off further then wipe with a clean rag. Then apply a light coating of your favourite (BIKE) lube.

In regards to it's replacement - as others said, go to the bike shop.

Yea thanks but please learn to read... my flat mate will be doing it for me. He does everything on his own (much more expensive, faster) bikes and is mechanically minded/inclined/whatever. So... I'm not paying for labour if it's not necessary, which it's not. I can only do small things I.e. change my oil/filter, brake fluid, tighten chain. Fucked if I'm gonna change the chain, that's what boys are for.

Please read... I've no intention of changing the chain myself, my flatmate will be doing it and is more than competent.

I know why it's gone rusty, hence me offering my reasoning I.e. degreaser in a can, so already telling me something I know... I cleaned it again last week with turps and lubed it, less than a week later or so, had rust and I only rode one day last week, my bike lives in the garage. It never did this before I "cleaned" it and no amount of lube will help it IMO. I've fucked it. No biggy though it's a 8yo chain that's almost doubled the ks it came with in 2 months. She's been working hard...

You got a mean frying pan I take it

Changing the chain on a ginny is very straight forward

You flatmate will be able to teach you a valuable skill and stuff, and he's probably not going to be a knob and write silly messages because you're knew at bike maintenance

His teaching method, so to speak, is frustrating and painful at times and I won't deny there have been tears and tantrums... his of course.... errm anyway at least I can do some stuff now and I am yet to break a nail?

And no, no frying pan. It's easier to comply than to put up with hours of bitching dun ya think?
