    Retro TV Channel

Post an old time (Pre 2000) TV show that you enjoyed or still enjoy. Bonus points for any interesting fact accompanying.

    ------------------------------

Waterman went from good cop in the Sweeney to 'bad cop' in Minder.

This guy's edited highlights are a good way to review the shows. http://www.youtube.com/user/ARTHURSJAG/featured

    Sledge Hammer!

1986 comedy/pisstake regarding all the cop shows and movies of that time.

Set against Miami Vice in the US airtime programming war, the series slowly attracted a dedicated audience!
David Rasche (Sledge) appeared as the President of the United States in the short-lived 2001 television series DAG. His secret service code-name on the series was Sledge Hammer.

    Remember this classic?

I bought a moody blues album after watching this. *kind of spoiler alert*

I don't know no trivia apart from what's on imdb.

Good times. I vividly remember watching the first sledge episode not sure what it was about until he used a rocket launcher to kill a sniper on the roof of a building.

    .
Remember it? I've got all the series, plus the movie on 35 DVDs. Still pretty good even after all these years.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

Got all of this series as well.

(the only series as it happened, after one of Pete Duel died)

trivia - The names "Smith and Jones" originated from a comment in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid when, prior to one of their final hold-ups, the characters are outside a bank in Bolivia and Sundance turns to Butch and says: "I'm Smith and you're Jones"

One of the best comedys ever to come out of the UK.

This may be apocryphal but I heard that the Chinese premier of the time asked Maggie Thatcher if the British Government actually worked as portrayed in Yes Minister. Her reply was along the lines of "yeah, pretty much".

I'm always disappointed when I go back and watch programs that were great 20 or 30 years ago. They seldom seem to be as good as I thought they were back then.

Depends on the program. Things like Knight Rider that were made purely for the money I would agree. The ones made for the "art" of it are a different matter. Yes Minister (and Yes Prime Minister), Chef, Mash, among others, are well worth watching again.

When I went to New York and was flicking thru the 53 odd channels on TV it was the only thing I could find worth watching
