    Two stroke oil options?

I'm currently running Castrol 2t in my 100cc 2t scooter. It runs/starts great, no smoke etc. The Castrol is a mineral oil.

Was in supercheap today having a look at 2t oil options. They have a synthetic oil branded Fuch Silolene 2t for scooters and mopeds. Also had another 2t oil for racing 2t's. Has anyone had much to do with the Fuch oils? It is $22.95 for 1 L. The Castrol is $15.00.

I have no complaints about the Castrol mineral oil, just wondered if the semi syn stuff would be a better long term prospect. The scooter is fairly new and only has 2,600 k's. I'll be keeping it for at least 2-3 years.

Fuchs/ Silkolene is one of THE best brands, up there with Castrol, Motul, Bel Ray, ELF for 2 stroke oils.

Synthetic and semi sythentic oils are always a better alternative to mineral. Some would say not required in a 100cc scooter, but arguably that little engine will be working pretty hard.

While the sticker price is higher, if it reduced wear or failure due to long term wear and stress, it's got to be good.

The other thing is that the better oils smoke less , have less carbon build up and less likely to foul a plug....

If it was me, I'd probably go semi synthetic.

BUT remember different types of oils have different mixing ratios

I suppose that could be a bit irrelevant with an Autolube system. The engine will draw off the amount of oil it chooses. I'll read whats on the container tho, just out of curiousity.

Never use the stuff from gas stations, I feel guilty putting it in lawnmowers. Semi synthetic is the way to go I reckon.

Don't you mean the opposite. Premixing is easy to change the ratios but if your using an oil pump you will have to re calibrate it.

Given the viscosity is set for autolube pump use, no. The question remains that with semi syn oils thety lube better so you can run slightly leaner settings, but for your average use, it's not a major. I did years ago for my proddie TZR250, put it would not have mattered much. too much is far better than not enough......!

Try Agip (eni) Oils from TransDiesel www.transdiesel.co.nz
I run them in race and road engine, full range. And should be a decent bit less than $15 per litre at your closest branch or buy online/over phone. I think ChCh shop retails it at around 10-12 a litre of semi synth, mineral a little cheaper and full synth a little dearer

4 stroke, 2 stroke, mineral, semi, full synth..

up to you. massive debates on oils - I even saw an oil in a magazine the other day targeted specifically for harley davidson v-twins.

www.transdiesel.com - if you somehow order and buy from the chch branch tell em the team agip sidecar sent ya

Remember, this discussion is around scooters and bikes with dry clutches.

I use Motul 710 in the RGV. The bike seems to enjoy it and it smells yum.

I purchase my oil through the guys at Motoone.co.nz, free shipping for orders over $150 but shipping is usually only 5 bucks within Auckland and arrives in 1-2 days after purchase. I usually get a 4L bottle of the oil and some gearbox oil + chainlube/airfilter oil all in one hit. Lasts ages and its like christmas when it arrives.

They have a pretty good range of oil and all at good prices, Id rather support these guys than the big Repco/Supercheap option.
