So this problem has only started since your mechanic tuned it?

It's obviously fucked, I'll give you 20 bucks for it.

Under nz law all goods and services are required to be of merchantable quality

This means you take the bike back to your mechanic and demand he rectifies the issue

Of course you used a professional in business not some mate who once had a 2stroke lawnmower

    Right?

Hi, a high revving RG is a lean one! When i coached a lot of kids on these often we'd be all sitting together on the dummy grid and I'd hear one gaining revs instead of idling. I'd run over, turn the fuel on and it would settle back to idle quickly!

Float level bout 7mm from base face to corner of float. Check.
Take fuel line off the tank and run the fuel from the tank into a jug. Make sure it flows well and does not decay in flow over time.If it does, this is the sign of a blocked cap breather, quite common.

The most common cause of your symptom is a blocked pilot jet. Very small and up a hole in the carb body. You need a good fitting screwdriver to get in and unscrew it. I sharpen a pin on the grinder to make it small and sharp.

What fuel filters are you using? Using those plastic cone types can cause issues

continued.... the pin or needle then gets up the jet and gives it a good clean out, go both ways and be sure. Held up to a good light and you'll see the tiny hole.
That's it, I'll be surprised if this doesn't cure it.
Oh, by the way, when it does die and rev high etc, does putting the choke on make a diffrence? If it settles it, then this is another sign it's screaming for a bit more fuel!!

And yep, asher is right. We've had a few probs with filters. Some car ones are very fine and need a bit of pressure to give free flow, so a small restriction can give greif. Again, as above, check fuel flow. You're not in christchurch, but we've had 'quake fuel" here recently, which is badly sedimented fuel caused by the seismic shake up of the tanks. has caused a lot of blocked filters and wrecked more than one fuel injection system on a gsxr 600!
