    A question about car racing

    Yes, I know.

But, can someone explain (like I am five years old) what the difference between NZV8's and Supertourers is? It appears to be the same taxi racing in both, and while I acknowledge they are proper racing cars underneath, I could not be less interested in watching Commodores and Falcons going slowly. But it seems odd to me that 4 million people sitting on the edge of the world can have two seemingly identical race series competing head to head.

    How did that happen?

It's complicated. Before we answer, first you have to wear the flannelette shirt and ugg boots.

I have my flannelette shirt undone and tied up under my moobs. Also Daisy Duke cutoffs and cowboy boots, will that do? I am not quite as attractive as Daisy Duke, but not far off it.

The thought of you in a pair of tight skimpy denim cutoffs is not good for health...

    OK.

My understanding is that taxi racing is quite popular in Straya. But their form of taxi racing is not the same as ours? and now we have another competing kind of taxi racing?

and its all about money. Funny, who'd a thunk it. I couldnt tell you what flavour of taxi is underneath the paint, and I gather that the running gear is all the same no matter which flavour taxi you are nominally running, but I can tell you that awful Woodstock shit sponsor one, so do Jack Daniels (which, since I am partial to it occasionally, I would cheer for), and the hose coupling people and errrrr, other bogan-ish sponsors.

    Politics?

Internal politics. Which probably comes down to Dave's answer.

My last litte trans tasman jaunt cost $850 in air fares.
(Fortunately I didn't have to pay it.)

How many on a travelling race team - 4 to 6 bodies?
And then there's the cars and all the shizzle.

Expensive ditch for that game - so there's a domestic and a euro league.

They seemed to have convinced Auckland Council to spend OPM on a past its sell by date track. I'd rather watch paint dry than Falcador parading which is good as my wife wants the house painted
DeMyer's Laws - an argument that consists primarily of rambling quotes isn't worth bothering with.

    a quick guide,

the NZV8's were built from falcon and commie's but had controled engines and other parts to make them the similar pace,

the SUpertourer is bult from the ground up with either falcon or commie body work, all the cars run a 6 litre GM motor, and a spec chassis etc, they split from motorsport NZ to make this series, so the NZV8's have continued on,

the aussie V8 supercars just went a simialr way with a comman floor plan and alot of comman parts, they did not use a comman motor tho, each manufacture must use thier own motor, merc and nissan have joined the normal HOlden and Ford

Sure, and I agree, but my question is in the context of a story in the paper today about a clash this weekend between the Vegemite taxi racing league, and the Marmite taxi racing league this weekend.

    Gotta love OPM.

so the Vegemite ones are NZV8's and they start as a body shell which is then turned into a racing car?

While the Marmite ones are "super"tourers and are like NASCARs: so a pukka racing spaceframe, then they just drape lookalike glass panels over them to make them look like whatever they are supposed to be i.e. a Coon or a Commode?

I get the feeling Big Dave is confusing the V8 Supercars with our own two V8 racing series.

NZ V8s were never really that interesting to watch.

The supertourers is a far better series and MNZ don't like it one bit.

I dont know the politics behind it all.
