New (returning) Kiwi Biker from Wairarapa

Hi there everyone and greetings from the Wairarapa. I recently purchased a (barely) used 1988 GSX1100F after a spell of about 20 years of deprivation. (I last owned a m'bike in the late '80s.) Back in 1996 my wife and I hired an XJ900 Diversion and did a two-week tour of the South Island. Absolutely loved it. I mistakenly thought that would cure me once and for all, but of course it just made things worse. Anyway, a few years and two kids later and I'm back in the saddle, pushing 40 this year (some claim I'm going through a mid-life crisis), and feeling like a newbie. Looking forward to stretching my GSX's long legs on the Wairarapa's fantastic roads, and hoping to gain a little insight towards safe riding and competent bike care along the way through this forum. Any other GSX1100F owners out there?
Even if you are on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.

Welcome. Your story sounds like an echo of mine. New here myself, but the people on here are good. Finding a little insight towards safe riding and competent bike care might be pushing it at times, judging by some of the posts here - but entertaining though.
Ahh, the old GSX1100F, last big bike I had was one of them. Heavy, but would go all day at a good rate of knots. Took me ages to sort the handling out. Aftermarket rear shock worked wonders together with stiffening the front end. probably has been done to your one by now.
The best way to forget all your troubles is to wear tight underpants.

Welcome to KB, glad to see the itch never faded.

As to safe riding ideas... weeell there might be a few people somewhere (where did we put them??) Bike care, well other than some simply hating to leave a corner behind, there is plenty of advice on bike maintenance etc.

Hello AMDAC, welcome to the KB gargre.

Might catch you on the hill or at the Flying Fish (Martinborough) some time. I'm the quiet shy one with no Ducati accessories......

    More of a mid-life revelation/rejuvenation than crisis!

Welcome aboard AMDAC, you are not the only one in that situation - think of it as getting back to what you were doing, before you were so rudely interupted by kids/mortgages etc

Welcome along - nice bike, but remember you are never too old for an 'R' !!!
I have it on good authority that most of Welly regions' cops are on patrol your side of the hill so take it easy
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
