    Hello and welcome.
Do you have a battery hooked up? I don't know how the engine has been modified for the go-kart, but some of these older yamahas need a battery. No battery, no spark.

Hi, yes it has a small motorbike battery which i suspect is crook, i had it hooked up to a 12v car battery when i was trying to fire it up

It has power down to the points system but from there nothing out and no power at the coils, could attach a picture of the points if that would help?

    Cheers

So what happens if you put power to the coil?

I jumped a +12v feed into the coils and wham we have spark!!!

Now it tries to fire up and i had it running for about 20seconds but it seems to foul the plugs quite quickly if you pull them out theyre dripping with fuel and once you clean the plugs it tries to start again but fouls them fast

Could the mixture screws be out of adjustment ?

Just turn the mixture screw until the revs perk up, then lower the idle stop, then repeat till it won't perk up anymore. Unlikely to be the case though. Is it a hard starter? Is the choke stuck on? Next easy stop is checking the needle and seat and the float level.

There is no airfilter at all :-\
Its very hard to start and generally fouls the plugs before it will run

Well today i finally got 2x new plugs and leads... Fitted a cheap online fuel filter topped up the fuel flicked the choke lever and kicked it over and it went on the first kick. Turned off the choke and had it running for a few minutes it seemed to drop a cylinder then pick it up and it smoked like hell but at least it runs :-)
