Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

So surely people can be married and happy but not because of thier marriage, so maybe being married has nothing to do with why they are happy?
Yes - correlation is not causality ... just some KBers clearly think it is ...

Sadly, I must be too young to find the evidence - I've searched and searched, and can't find ANY evidence to support Ed's claims about heterosexual couples being happier. And it appears - neither can Ed.

Gay men cook well, my cousin's gayer than a nude Elton John in a tub of lube and he's an excellent cook.

We should all be gay, because gay people are happier and AIDS is coooool

Oh I can cook .. when we have people over for a meal I cook ... I enjoy cooking - because I enjoy eating (unless my wife cooks - then it's a chore at best and gruesome at worst ...)

But fuck being a fag .. it's not me ... I don't give a flying fuck how other people get their rocks off ... no skin off my nose ... I just know I'm a good red-blooded heterosexual kiwi male .. and proud of it ... and if that's not PC .. well fuck it ... I don't give a shit ..

    AIDS is not cool - it's a life-threatening disease ...

I'm still too young and stupid it seems - can you point me in the direction of where it says heterosexual couples are happier?

Yeah ... I think you may well be right ... it says "married couples" but doesn't specify heterosexual couples ..

And a quick Google search in a different way does turn up a couple of research articles that say same sex couples are happier ...

In Ed's first post "married" could be interpreted as same and opposite sex marriages ... it's not til a later post he uses the term heterosexual ..

But yeah .. it looks like you might be right .. I do remember older research .. but maybe a reading of those too would reveal "married" but not necessarily "hetersosexual" is the key to happiness ...

Since the mesia focus on homosexual couples have only been a relatively recent phenomonen, and yes I know Homosexuality has been around for thousands of years, the studies previously have focussed on heterosexual marriages.

Latest studies are including homosexual couples but world-wide, they are still outside the "marriage" scene and while they may be together, only in the last fwer months have the Governments been willing to consider marrying homosexual couples. Hence the studies on marriage remain those of heterosexual married couples.

Naa .. it's messier than that Ed .. this study says cohabitating couples are happier than married couples - but is silent on the sexual orientation of the couples ...

But Ed is probably right - I followed the path to the full Yap article - the research was done in Britain ... and the discussion clearly implies that "marriage" is a heterosexual relationship ... and married people are happier than non-married people ...

The articles on gay marriage suggesting that married gay people will be happier than non-married gay people are based on the research that heterosexual people are happier married - the extrapolation is that gay people will be happier married because heterosexual people are AND because it legalises the relationship ... these are discursive articles argueing for Gay marriage - not research articles ..

So Ed is basically right if a little simplistic - and the research is that heterosexual people are happer when married ... and there is a strong implication that homosexual people will also be happier when they are married than non-married gay people ..
