Dunedin learner on a Scorpio! (Erelyes)

    G'day everyone....

Got my learners a few weeks ago having never ridden a bike before.

Couple days ago purchased second hand Scorpio from a dealer, 2008 model, 2800 km's on it. Also bought boots and gloves. Already had a helmet (from my clubsport days a few years ago) and bought a jacket on tardme ($51!). A few peeps on here recommended a road legal dirtbike, but tbh they just didn't feel right, plus I was dead set on a roadbike. The Scorpio is comfortable enough.

Went for the first on-road ride today... loved it. Stalled a few times but I live in a quiet neighborhood. Still learning how to take off quickly but smoothly. I also stalled once doing a turn in 2nd gear at the end of a culdesac

Here is the suspect just before setting off on his 40min jaunt.

If you see a fairly big guy on a scorpio with an L plate... probably me. I'll try to wave without whacking my mirror.

Thanks for the warm welcome, and the offer of the ride!

I'd love to come along (really) but A) I'm only free after 7.30pm ish (once kids are in bed) and B) I've not really enough road experience to have the confidence to do a trip out there at the moment.

Maybe in a couple weeks or so?

Hey are there 'forum groups' here on KBiker? e.g. a group set up for Dunedin members?

went for a little ride out to Taiaroa Head and back with fast eddie and co, nice cruise there and i had a litte fun heading home then sat back and cruised again

keeps those tyre pressures up and all is well

    for low speed practice,
the skate rink car park is a great place, they have a painted out remote control car track, and with a bit of practice you can get around it ,

and the road from green island to Taieri Mouth is a nice open road ,with sweeping corners,
that are a little less tiring than the port road,

will catch up with the newbie some other time

Twas a nice wee cruise the newbies on their 250's got along ok, that one tight corner got em unawares I think haha, come along for the next one Erelyes, no better way to build confidence than get out there the pace is very very relaxed. I'm riding with a couple new riders at the mo, gn250 gets along ok but is slow because.. well its not a grunty motor. and the zxr250 is building up some confidence but still a fairly sedate pace. Nothing that would scare anyone im sure

I'm getting new tyres this week so hoping to head out on sat or sunday for a squirt somewhere and scrub the new tyres in

Will definitely come along for the next one, weather and kids permitting.

I went for an hour's ride last night, 7.30-8.30. Went on my first 80k area (went up to Mosgiel lookout on three mile hill road). Felt good.
