Drink, race your car, kill someone and ...

Be pronounced in a court of law as not guilty of manslaughter.

While there may well be circumstances the public aren't privy to, and considering there might possibly be compassion that it was their own whanau they killed, I was by the outcome. If you drink and race your vehicle surely common sense tells most people there will possibly be a very messy outcome.

Ok I'm sure no one set out to deliberately kill anyone but FFS that's like playing with a loaded gun then saying "oh, I didn't mean to shoot you dead, it was an accident".

What kind of twisted message are we sending when such a tragedy is treated so lightly? Two young women are dead as a result of deliberate and wilful recklessness, but hey, neither driver meant to kill them eh.

Before anyone bleats on about how the GUILTY perpetrators are probably very sad, distraught even, at what happened, '(cos it was their own who were the victims) would be outcome be any less gut wrenching if it had been complete strangers they had murdered through their selfish stupidity?

How can they be found not guilty of that??? Seriously... We aren't even talking about plain stupidity here, we are talking complete idiocy, and then we get outcomes like this?

Despite my cynicism re: the media it does rankle that human life seems to be a lot cheaper these days. Wet bus ticket sentencing remains the norm.

Completely agree with you there, personally I would be happy if they shiffted driving under the influence to the same as attempted murder, and if you actually do kill someone while driving under the influence it should definatley be a murder charge. Any idiot who dosn't know better than to drink( or your pick of mind altering drugs) and drive ( normally like a nutter. ) is obviously to stupid to be a part of society.

Murder is when you purposely set out to kill somebody.
Man slaughter is when you accidently kill some one.
    The difference is very clear.
But why somebody that accidently kills somebody else while driving under the influice is not found guilty of man slaughter is beyond me.
Best ask scumdog, that cunt has all the smart arsed answers after the fact just like most cops do,,,after the fact.
Oh yeah,,,the laws fucked that's why,,,I just forgot.

People seem to be overlooking the fact that they were found not guilty by a jury of their peers rather than by a Judge. A third family member had also earlier pleaded guilty and the jury was asked to put this guilty plea to one side in considering the guilt of the remaining two.

Besides, if the remaining two had also been found guilty what would it have achieved, really? I ask this after seeing the news coverage of the extended family leaving the court after the verdict. It doesn't seem to me that these leopards are likely to change their spots any time soon.

From Stuff "Crown prosecutor Greg Hollister-Jones said while Reihana was the one driving the car that crashed, all three were to blame because they were racing - at speeds of up to 140 kph - before the crash happened."

"But the jury disagreed with that, finding both not guilty after a day of deliberations"

Achievement is not always success while reputed failure often is. It is honest endeavor, persistent effort to do the best possible under any and all circumstances.

Jesus. If the penalty for causing someone's death continues in the same pathetic trend as the last few years, I'm going to wait till the penalty is just a small fine, then I'm going to go kill a whole bunch of motherfuckers.

    Best start writing my list!

Indeed. I remember this event being reported, I really felt for the whanau, how horrible!

The entire bunch should be locked up and the friggen keys thrown away! Guilty pleas be buggered.

These ignorant cnuts left a couple of kids dead in their drunken states!

We as a society HAVE to, HAVE to, find a way to intervene in some lives to stop this shit from happening!

My kids would never have gone into a car with a driver that was pissed. They never would have NOT worn a seat belt. That is the norm that I expect.

I am actually quite saddened to call NZ home tonight.

I am sad that the courts (jury) have made a decision that I may disagree with but NEVER will I be sad to call NZ my home. Then again I was born here and despite having travelled the world I would not live any where else.

Apparently everybody deserves a second, third, fourth, gazillionth chance. Unless of course they don't fit into a demographic that requires the righting of social wrongs.

Sent from my lounge listening to my next door neighbour's party music.
