Where to get preload on suspension increased?

As of lately have felt that my suspension on the rear could be stiffened up a bit. Just wanting to know a place where they won't charge shit loads or what c spanner Size I'd need to diy? Am located in Auckland Btw.

There is a minute chance that providing information about the make & model of the bike in question could lead to more comprehensive advice being offered.

Nah, fuck it. Get the biggest C-Spanner you can find and a 48oz ball pein hammer while you're at it.

Considering you list your bike as "None" ... it might be difficult.

Pretty sure I've got some spanners somewhere....otherwise careful use with a big screwdriver/drift and a hammer will work.

BUT, I'm guessing the problem goes deeper than just preload, it really doesn't make that much difference, it won't make it any stiffer, just make it ride a bit higher, and make it bouncier.

    What EXACTLY is the problem?

A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

Reseting preload wouldn't be an option i would have thought.
They are usually set up to go and all you are left with, to a certain extent, is Compression and rebound to play with.

Meh, C spanners are for pussies. Get a centre punch and use the 48oz hammer to shift the lockrings.

...i was all full of suspension and to rectify the feeling got very preloaded on vodka and orange...couldn't remember what was getting my suspenders in a twist not long after...then soon I couldn't remember anything at all...it's a common cure I believe...

You sound like Akzle in the red I got from him-'wrong, you are wrong' which only proves more I'm right.

I'd bet the rear spring is way too soft, they usually are on these little jappa's.
I know plenty about suspension, and how it functions, and what each component does, and what effect it has on handling and grip too.
Blindly winding up the preload heaps doesn't cure a soft spring, or a worn out damper either.
It can however cause mucho instability in the bike.....
Not sure which part you think is wrong...
'BUT, I'm guessing the problem goes deeper than just preload' Read above, it's an older bike with stock soft suspension
'it really doesn't make that much difference, it won't make it any stiffer, just make it ride a bit higher' Winding up preload doesn't change the spring rate, so it WON'T be stiffer, it'll just sit however much higher the preload you put in is. And probably top out without any load on the bike.
'and make it bouncier' Try it.....though it may be possible to compensate with damper adjustment if it has it.

You may also note the I asked what the problem actually is before blindly handing out possibly dangerous advice....

BTW, my take on that 'setup' page is that it's full of bad advice. I'll gladly take that back if Sir Robert says otherwise.
