WTF was the muppet doing smoking in the first place? If he required an O2 bottle to breathe properly, then something was obviously wrong with his respiratory system.

Honestly when this happens, I have no sympathy.

after these stupidity tests are failed, you have to take a step back and say, is the world better place since poor (Insert name here) is gone.

Most of the time the awnser is yes, so it is no skin off of my nose.

Some just dont learn, I used to take an old chap across to the Waikato hospital for renal dialysis. Nothing to see an obese lump hooked up to a dialysis machine for up to 6 hours. A 2L bottle of coke, and a giant packet of potato chips in his bag. Others munching on biscuts, family bringing in fast foods for lunch.

Their bored kids wrecking the medical equipment. The nurses getting abused from patients ( some) and the families.

While I'm not particularly sympathetic to the person in the article, I do find myself wondering how different the reaction on here would be if the article was about a motorcyclist who died from a wheel stand gone bad.

Umm .. there's a good chance that pulling a wheelie will not result in death (sure it happens sometimes - but I and others have pulled wheelies and not been killed - or even harmed) ... but lighting a cigarette around Oxygen, after you've been warned not to because it will kill you is just dumb ... because it will kill you - or at least do serious harm ...

Sorry mate, but I don't see that the two situations are the same ...

If you think about it, there's very real similarities.

So you wish to warn bikers that they must not perform wheel stands because it is certain they will die.

Not even close. The deceased was in a volatile environment where any spark or flame was going to result in an explosion, just like lighting a ciggie while filling your bike up at a gas station. He was specifically told not to light up.

How you equate that to pulling a wheelie is weird. But then...

The person in the article might not have fully understood the danger he was in.

Can motorcyclists claim the same ignorance?

You obviously didn't read the full article. He was specifically instructed on more one occasion and both verbal and written warnings were given.

Wheelying a bike may or may not result in an accident depending on the rider's skill and may lead to injury or death depending upon location and speed. This muppet was not in a situation that was so vague and variable.

    Really?

I could stand there all day trying to light the oxygen in my oxy/acetylene set.

Well in that case the hospital staff didn't know what they were talking about then, eh? Gave false warnings they did...
