    1980 Suzuki GT200 resuscitation

I picked this up last week...

Clip ons are ordered, as are mini indicators. I'm planning to make a new fibreglass single seat/cowl.

My biggest question mark at the moment is about rearset pegs. Is it worth making your own, or are cheapy chinese ebay specials worth looking at?

This without fairing and factory tank is what I'm planning at the moment...

Plenty of GB400/500 single seats still around ... cheaper to recover than build from scratch.

    Rear-sets are easy to make.

    Beauty of a bike!

Make yer own seat unit, some foam, f/glass and patience and you'll be a happy chappy.

Rearsets, PM bogan on here, he's a clever bugger and could possibly help you with the rearsets.

    Oh...more pics too!

Just don't rape it, make sure you can return it to standard. These old GTs are getting pretty rare.

Rare? But nothing special - chop the bugger up mate and cafe it.

If it was a GT380 or the likes I'd maybe say restore. Thing is about lots of those old bikes, is .... they were not actually that shit hot in the day just the best of a average bunch.

$100 will buy you a cafe seat pan unit, but making your own sounds like fun. Ah fiberglass fumes ........

If I could find one I'd consider it, but I haven't seen any yet. My father in law had to make the single seat for his GB400 from two rubbish ones. The linkages are what I'm concerned about for the rearsets as I want the bike to be rideable!

Choice, will get some more photos up next week. It's not as pretty as the photos suggest with 69km of patina...

A GT250, or 380 maybe, but these 200s seem to be a bit of a poor cousin. Anyways at the moment the plan is restricted to bolt on/off modifications.

I haven't seen a $100 seat pan unit yet, feel free to send through any links of inspiration you might see

Plenty to polish! That looks like a good price, I already have a fair pile of parts (disc front end etc) if you needed anything

Looks really nice as bought! I was going to buy one of those brand new and then the GT250 X7 came out so I bought one of those instead. Travelled all over the show on it. Wish I hadn't sold it now.

Wasn't sure what to do with the bar mounts

So went mad with the milling machine....she's not going to be returning to stock in a hurry...

At the same time I flipped the headlight mounts and lowered the instruments ~ 50 mm, will reassemble tomorrow and see if I've got to the desired height.

Nice motorcycle, I had one of these when I was a young fella. Maybe memory pulls tricks, but I recently rode a modern 200cc motorcycle, and I didn't think it was half as good as the strokers from the 70's. On the other hand, I didnt have to kick start it...

that was half the fun, i had a RD200 years ago amongst several other bikes, doing 70mph you put up a pretty good smoke screen

Definitely more pull than a 200 4 stroke! This one has the bonus of electric start too...
