    1988 Honda VF750c Super Magna V4 cruiser

    $3,600 o.n.o.

    1. Mechanically/structurally sound. George [Motorcycle Doctors] recently fully serviced & declared it in mint running condition. If you know George, then his opinion carries a lot of weight.
    2. Body/paint is in excellent shape, except for one small hairline crack, one small tank dent & one chip - all not immediately noticeable.
    3. Near-new Michelin front & Metzler rear tyres.
    4. Brakes, lights, instruments, electrics, all working beautifully.
    5. Some extras, like windshield, rear seat, rear body panel, engine parts.
    6. Genuine 21,000 kms
    7. Raised mirrors - Actually see what's behind clearly, not just your shoulders
    8. Honda reliability - Just change oil & oil filter at designated times & that's all!
    9. Always garaged
    10. New WOF and 6 months rego.

Not shown: Belly pan & rear seat will be attached when sold. Haynes service manual. Bits n bobs.

One of the most beautiful Japanese cruisers of all time... Super powerful & rare muscle sports-cruiser with V4 700cc engine producing 80hp w/ top speed of 200kph with 6-speed trans & maintenance-free shaft drive. But it is forgiving and even though I just got my full license off a 250cc cruiser, this bike feels natural in control and response, with no hidden surprises. Nimble handling puts a smile on your face as you negotiate straights or twisties with ease. The liquid-cooled V4 produces a lot less vibration than V-twin engines yet smoother, more even torque at all rpms & also amazing top speed. So the best of the Vees and Four cylinders. Four beautiful upswept chrome pipes produce a deep throaty purr that turns heads, sets lips flapping & eyes lusting [sorry, at the bike, not you].

Selling because after lusting for the longest time, I finally found one & spent a lot of energy and time tidying it up BUT unfortunately after finally sitting on it, have found it is too short/small for me. Sadly I need to find something else... Has been advertised elsewhere. Call or text 021 0275 1858 or PM.

Agree with you this is one of the best looking Japanese cruisers - timeless design and they just work so well. I had one of the 1987 700's and it was a great all-round bike. They are surprisingly versatile as they are a sit-up style power-cruiser rather than the feet-forward style. I did a full NZ trip on mine over a couple of weeks and apart from a limited range due to the smaller tank (160km to reserve on mine) it was a great touring bike. All the best with the sale.

    Thanks!

Our only point of differentiation is the sitting style. I find that my knees are above hip level and that's actually a disadvantage at speed (e.g. 100kph or above) as it makes it difficult for me to lean forward against the wind. OTOH, I guess the windshield would help with that...

Mine had cruiser pegs fitted as well (see pic below) which meant that you could change feet position on the open road. No screen on mine - if I'd kept it I think a screen would have been a big help.

These can easily be fitted with forward controls.

I'm not bagging you, your bike, or your price. But, the "Honda reliability" part of you r ad needs to go.

The cam shafts and rockers are made of chocolate in these bikes. I suppose it's reliable in a way, you can rely on spending some money on the head at some point.

CRM - Did you trade it into Hamilton Honda, by chance? They have one like it with black pipes...

LR - True. Something to consider...

Drew - At least so far it's been reliable...

I thought they'd sorted them by that point?

    Nice bike though.

Not till the gear driven cam version came out. Was a bit hit and miss as to weather you got hardened cams, little bit hardened cams, or how is the valve spring not bending the cam?...Cams.

I like them, they are just a bit pricey still for me to get one and hack it to pieces for a bobber yet. Shafties are real easy to make a single sided hard tail out of!

Sorry to say it Drew...but your a lil bit off in regards to the Chocolate cams & rockers for this particular model.

The 82 thru 84 Honda V4's had an oiling problem, the late 80's 750 Magna used a detuned VFR engine, THEY had the problems with cam lobes becoming pitted, Honda then "fixed" the cam & oil problems in 1985.(they didn't! lol) And in 86 it went to down to a VF-700cc not 750cc. (Honda sleeved down the engine in response to import tarriff rate hikes for 750's, and the Magna became the VF700C from 84 to 86.)
BUT-in 87 Honda then went back to a 750cc donk, and they completely restyled the bike which was then nick named the "Super Magna" V45, and the cams were line-bored and have improved oil ducts to "finally" eliminate the cam wear problems of the previous engines (the chocolate cam syndrome)

So there are actually no major problems with the 87-88 engines, Ive ridden a couple and actually nearly bought one (Just cos they look sooo cool), very nice bikes (For a sport/crusier lol)...the only issue I have ever heard of for these models was the exhausts need to be checked regularly as they can rust out VERY fast and cost a friggin fortune to replace.

No I sold it to a friend who had it for a couple of years then she sold it - so could be in Hamilton Honda by now. When I bought it mine only had 20000 miles on it and was very tidy - gave me zero problems. My 2002 VFR (which I bought because I loved the V4 engine in the Manga) gave me more cam issues...

That's bloody good to know, and a great relief too. Thanks!

Glad to be wrong on this score.

    As you all were.
