Any Windows 8 webmail gurus on here?

An elderly neighbour of ours has just bought a new PC with Windows 8. She's actually done a great job in coming to grips with it overall but is experiencing a puzzling issue with webmail. Webmail works ok in that it downloads incoming emails just fine and she can read them. Now here's the weird bit! It only happens to a few emails but after sitting for a couple of days in her inbox, all that's left of certain emails is the sender info and the header line with no subject material - it simply disappears into the wide blue yonder!

As I only found out about it this morning, I haven't had the opportunity to do any detailed research yet but thought I'd take a punt in case there are any Windows 8 experts on the forum.

Webmail doesn't download emails to your computer, it's on the web... so something is amiss here. Is it webmail or the mail client in W8?

Get her to move to Gmail. Seriously.

Windows 8 is doing my head in on a number of issues. Some of these, like WiFi connections randomly failing, may be related to the Dell laptop. However the reconnection issue isn't helped by Win8 and seems to require me having to reboot my wireless router. All other wireless devices on the network are just fine.

And please don't get me started on Office 2013.

As gremlin said, webmail is "on the web" - it just looks at the mail on the server, and downloads nothing (well.. technically it does but that's a whole different story).

If you are talking about "windows mail" - call your internet provider and get them to verify the settings.

Hmmmmm.... thanks Alan - good point! She's got an Xtra account so I may try looking through the Yahoo Xtra website and seeing if I can see if there's anything different through that.

I have had a Gmail account for some years and nothing could be simpler. It's a good option if all else fails but I'd like to solve the problem at hand if I can as the lady is in her late 70's and has done a pretty good job of mastering Windows 8 (and webmail). I'd hate to change her email account which she's had for many years unless all else fails. Having just helped her set up her new computer which came with Win 8 installed, I'm inclined to agree with your sentiments. I still have XP Pro on a clunky desktop and prefer to avoid Win 8! Also have an iPad which I seem to be using increasingly often!

Cheers, I'll go through it with a fine tooth comb tomorrow when I have a bit more time She also has Office 2013 which came installed with her PC but needs activating. Mercifully, she's not pressing for this at present

Xtra has webmail, you can also obviously hook a mail client to the account, Xtra has some slightly funky settings you may need to go into advanced to adjust. I think the rules also change whether you're on an Xtra internet connection or not, some of the ISPs do this.
