Certainly pretty incredible motorcycles. Glad I got to see a fair few 500 GP's before they became extinct.
Great video - my personal irony is that I started to watch motorcycle racing in that era and maybe a touch before that... say 1985 or so. Little did I know I was seeing some of the best racing in history, with multiple riders on the grid who were world champions or would become world champions. Schwants, Rainey, Lawson, Gardner, Mamola (ok so he never won the crown), Doohan, etc etc... long list of good riders. I think Barros did a wildcard race in 1988 or there abouts, and apparently he fudged his age to be able to ride.
The irony being that I got to see the best racing then, when I new very little about bikes .... and it has never been the same since.
One of the reasons they said for MotoGP was to make the racing more exciting. I watched the clip a few days ago, but in one race I think they said the lead changed 48 times ?!!!!! How long since we've seen the lead change more than a couple of times? I was impressed with what Lawson said about Gardner, the guy was over the edge constantly on a bad handling bike - a lot of people first saw Gardner in V8 Supercars, and think he was a hasbeen....I hope that doesn't happen to Stoner.
