Bike Barn always seems to have 50% sales, bearing in mind they're RRP are also way inflated compared to overseas. Don't pay full price.

I got my Merida Big Ninety-Nine CF at more than 50% off... so uh, couldn't argue

And now T7 has big sales, so I couldn't resist those either

    Depends on budget...

If I was starting out again I'd buy this ($2879)

but entry level it's very hard to go past this ($1599)

Probably keep the hardtail 29'r for the wide open trails around here as its fast and effortless

Its a bit of a handful on narrow single track and technical stuff. Climbs OK but pretty high geared and I struggle to keep it pointed straight at slower speeds climbing. I was having a mare of a time with the front coming up on tight uphill switchbacks but a few adjustments and better technique mostly sorted that. Having a quick pedal on a few full suss bikes makes me think that's worth a lash... 650b, alloy, mix of xt or slx brakes/shifters etc. 120mm plus travel...

And laugh when your shoulder brushes a tree

Then afterwards you think that was a bit crazy, and remember you've hurt yourself more mountain biking than motorcycling... and wonder when you can next head into the forest

    No, it's pretty outright

Ignoring minor stuff, motorcycling: burnt leg, 2nd degree burn (2 weeks off feet, almost hospitalised due to infection). Mountain biking: bruised/fractured ribs (5 weeks to heal, didn't bother visiting A&E as they couldn't exactly do much anyway).

Mountain biking wins for pain received

Am ordering 2 new mountain bikes with helmets and soft seats today. My bride and I have decided its time to explore some of the hundreds of miles of tracks the HBRC have kindly had installed around the Bay. The Mountain bike will have a hard job beating my motorcycles for pain received - it is possible but not likely....the Lord willing I aim to keep it that way

My last new bike was Christmas 1970 Santa was generous that year

    ....wherezz that track go

    Good Christmas that one.

If it's pain you want, SH50 past the golf course should be entertaining for the rest of us, either driving or driving past.

Keep us posted on your progress.... Always keen to hear about new places to ride..

At the moment my big decision is to whether got the XC/Trail (120mm travel each end) or the longer 140/150mm travel trail / all mountain routes.

Since everything in wellington requires climbing ability I’m trending to the shorter travel / lighter route. Say Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt 730/750??
