Would like a 40t rear sprocket added in there. Only about $100.
Oh... Was it your bike I saw looking at yesterday?

I did today, I thought the tracks we use would have had time to dry out but I was wrong, plenty of water as well which I nearly ended up having a lie down in when the front wheel dug into a soft spot

Yeah, 20s into the first lap of last weekend's cyclocross race and we were going through a ditch with 10cm thick mud in it. Ride it and risk washing out, or run it and get REALLY muddy shoes. Then for the next half a lap, leaves stuck to the tyres...

Maxxis Wormdrives were probable not the best choice, but were great for the ride there and back. 60min each way with a 40min race in the middle.

I ditched the front derailleur on my Reign awhile back and have been running 32 narrow wide and 11/40 with clutch mech.

The 40t is nice to have when your tired and have to grind out that last bit of the uphill.

OK - need an idea for a flat (ish) trail ride for elderly mixed sex group firmly in the easy to slightly less easy in the lower north island. Basically Me n Vicki plus some of our friends away for a weekend. Gentle trail ride to promote appetite 4 to 8 hours return. Shower and drink.... Ages late 50's to late 60's.... I was thinking taupo...

Taupo have gone all queer and you have to be a member to ride their trails now, may as well rock on to rotovegas and enjoy the shuttle runs
I'd invite you over to Hb but half our old park is closed and the new trails are a bit soft after all the rain...

Bugger - there seem to be a lot of public trails around the northern bays at taupo? Oh well - loads of places...

Pureora Timber Trail! Do the new cycleway from Piropiro down to the Ongarue end. There's a bit of hill at the start then once you hit the old tramway it's a gently downhill cruise all the way. If they're capable of a 40km cruisy road ride then they'll do this no worries. Pureora Village to Black Fern Lodge is another option, a bit more hilly & parts might be a bit muddy over winter though. There are shuttles available.

Also the Taupo great lake trail - Whakaipo to Kinloch etc & the new bit Waihaha-Waihora are quite nice if you want something shorter. Boat shuttles now available I think if you want to do the Waihaha bit one way or link it up. These are free to do, somewhat bizarrely they have started charging for use of the Craters of the moon MTB park to fund maintenance of the great lake cycle trail

    Cheers
    Clint

    Talking Upgrade time

The town bike started life as a 1970's 10-speed, it's now a single speed commuter, and basically everything on it has been replaced, except the awful 1970s brakes.

It gets used almost daily, and has not had new parts bought for it since 1994... so it's time for a bit of an upgrade. Thanks to Sheldon Brown (dot com) I tracked down some brand new Tektro caliper brakes that (should) fit my bike. As well as some levers designed for flat bars, and some stainless cables, since I live on a volcano.

(sorry for the crappy photos, I only work on my bicycles when it is too dark outside to ride them)

Clint has helpfully suggested that if I'm replacing the brakes, it won't be too much extra hassle to paint the frame

So, stay tuned while the town bike gets dragged into the 21st century.
The road to hell is paved...

You know I was admiring a 'womens' 70's commuter bike with long mud guards tonight at the pool. The tall wheels have quite a dramatic impression.
I must get my old Schwinn roadie back &...well... just hang it up with the other roadie bikes I never ride anymore.... It holds a special place in my heart as it was the first bike I ever rode into a car with... grunting up college hill going 3kph and the car was parked

I kinda like the orange paint scheme , you should leave it- unless you go for a Josie & the pussycats theme.
