Just knocked out a 27km ride, mixture of 4wd track, stop bank and bush bashing, weathers getting better so we'll be out a bit more, another couple of weeks and it'll be back into some hill work

I need some advice from you lot... my "new" bike (Kona Blast) has got the worlds most comfortable seat ie; padded, sprung and capable of conveying a very fat person over rocks with minimal discomfort. This however is fucking useless for actually riding the bike so I need a new seat, what's a reasonable brand / pricing / source? I don't want to spend a fortune but want something capable of being ridden for a day without being a complete cripple afterwards.

    Fizik Aliante.
I've got 2, both off TradeMe.
Next would be a Fizik Gobi. Not as plush, but not a plank either.

Where in the world of NZ are you?
You could give my spare Aliante a go as there's a Selle Italia SLR gel flow on the XC bike at the moment.

Its not quite as comfortable as the Aliante though

i usually ride WTB rocket V saddles as they have a bit of padding on the buttocks.

i didn't realise they were so expensive tho.
You could try chain reaction cycles as they are quite good value

Or you could try your LBS & see the difference between them.

Thanks guys, I will have a look at those sugestions tonight. Fran, thanks for the offer but I'm in Auckland so not very practical.... I have to admit to being surprised at how much a brand name seat is, I had expected to pay maybe $50 for a seat but some are retailing into $300 plus! I needed a lie down after that.

Ok, read reviews, searched Trade me and now have a couple of Fizik seats on watch list, failing that it's Torpedo 7 or Bicycle studio in Auckland. It was great to have a couple of names (Fizik & WTB) to use as start points, I now have a small understanding of the seat designs and choices available.

The Aliante and Gobi are the most supple Fizik seats, the rest are pretty much planks.

I hope so, just bought an "as new" Aliante for $31.00 off trade me, I will report back.

I was bidding on them too, just forgot about them
Perfect colour for my bike too...

Just be aware that they're the road versions.
The difference is the V cutout in the back, carefully placed to catch you by the baggies if you hang off behind the seat often.
Still a good seat though. Got one on the rigid MTB.

I paid $70 for one of mine

Now you tell me there's a road version....

I'll try it out and if I emascultate myself on it I'll sell it to you for $32.00.
I have the perfect place too, the local "mountain" (about 200m from my front door) has some descent downhills so the first ride should determine whether the seat is trying to kill me.

Wyn Masters racerun from last weekends DH race in Long Gully Wellington, makes those gorse bushes seem like a gentle field of pillows to land in if you bin it!
