Weird. I don't think anyone has ranted or raved in the thread at all. Well, raved maybe.

Yeah, mud. The 2 wheel drifting in the cyclocross racing has helped my gravel riding.
3°C, howling southerly, week old thick gravel now pushed into ridges, baldish front 705.
Just like a slick, off camber, CX corner.
Well, a 7km long CX corner...

As Jeremy Clarkson might have said, "poo did come out".

Oh well - rant and rave is OK...

You guys will know... I have a small bike that was always hanging about at Dads place. All the families kids used to ride it when they visited. Numbers on the coaster brake hub suggest a date 1971 and its a Raleigh so its likely a Raleigh Mountie. Suitable for a 5 to 7 year old..

Anywho - its pretty well worthless as its missing the mud guards and chain guard etc but I've decided to refurbish it anyway as the next generation should have a go and its as cute as a bug...

So - its all in bits. Bottom bracket / stem etc all in OK condition and I will get a bit of the chrome re plated.

I'm thinking repainting should be 2 pack rather than powder? Its a sort of metallic red... What do you think? It should be tough enough?

    Mmmmm...

All my bike has in common with that is the seat. Chrome is not recommended for motorbike frames as it's brittle and can crack, the crack can then create a stress riser which in turn causes the frame to crack. If you want a shiny frame and can't afford gold, nickle plating is the process of choice.

Dunno if the problem is as serious with pushbikes, but I'll leave that to someone else to find out.

Are you sure? Hydrogen embrittlement from chrome plating is a documented problem on welded structures but I thought all good cycle frames were brazed so the problem shouldn't occur?

Usual disclaimers, not an expert, no real idea of the subject but have a vague recollection rattling around in my cranium and no, I'm not doing any more research than that.

We went for a spin Monday night... Lordy it was COLD but its always fun with lights when its getting on freezing. Everything looks white and sparkly.

We were wrapped up super warm but heres a question... What do you wear when its raining? Jackets no issue but legs? I have some Kathmandu stretchy merino things that are uber warm so will just use them I reckon...

I just wear a thin goretex jacket and don't worry about the legs.
