Time for another exciting email from the HRR 'Please Buy Our New DVD' dept.
The good news is that we're half way funded now! Thanks a lot. The bad news is we've got half way to go.


I've also confused a few people!
The concept of crowd funding is not a new thing in film circles, but it seems to be a little lost on the NZ hot rod community, so thought I'd clear up a couple of the recurring questions below.
The one thing I can't stress enough is that the DVD will not be produced if I don't meet the funding target by the deadline. There is no grey area here.

So, if you or someone you know would like a DVD with 2 hours of NZ hot rodding features on it, please pass on this email now!!

And without further ado, here's the FAQ.
(I tried to commission an offshore call centre but I would have had to set up another crowd funding campaign to pay for it)

What is a pledge?
Think of telethon in the old days. You pledge a preset amount in return for a reward IF the campaign is successful. The rewards are DVDs and T shirts, a thank you in the credits, and you get your DVD before we offer them for retail sale.

When do I pay?
You enter your credit card details through the secure site, but your card is NOT charged until the deadline on May 12. And that's only if we hit the funding target.

What happens if you don't meet the funding target?
Nothing! Your credit card will not be charged at all. It also means we won't put the DVD together and I'll go back to paying more attention to my day job!

I don't want to pre purchase a DVD. I'd rather wait and grab one when they come out.
That's cool, but if we don't hit the target there won't be a DVD to buy later.

Is the DVD just stuff I've already seen on HotRodRevue.co.nz?
Yes and no. The DVD will feature approximately one hour of brand new material. But, we feel some of the features we've released free online over the last 2 years would also be cool to be included, so you can watch them on a big telly. So we'll put those in there too.

$45 inc courier is a bit more than my last DVD I got off you.
Yes, it's $5 more this time for the DVD but it's also twice as long.

Why try this Pledgeme.co.nz thing?
There's a few reasons. I didn't want to spend my evenings and weekends working on something that people wouldn't buy. If it doesn't reach the target all I've wasted is a couple of hours editing a trailer and typing these wordy emails to you. Plus it's a bit of a test run for the next DVD I want to make, which will be a little more expensive to produce and may require some advanced funding.
