I am fairly sure you can reprogram the ECU to a new key code. Its a bit of a faff but cheaper than buying new parts.

Here is a link to a guy that has done this on his CBR600. Just buy a blank HISS key, cut it to your ignition and then reprogram the ECU so the new key codes are recognised by HISS.

I would think a honda dealer could do this for you or do it yourself - must be similar setup to the blade.
Ive contacted Blue Wing Honda and all the local Honda Dealers, They wont touch it, They dont re-code new keys to the same ECU, they refuse too, im sure they could however they all said the same thing. Buy a new ECU/Locks/Ignition barrel which is 3.8k. This is their only solution.

The problem lies with ECU, to reprogram it to a new Key im sure you have to open it up, that means opening up an Air tight, Gel Filled electrical component, chances of moisture damage etc are minimal but real.

I only have one key so I hope I don't lose it.

Found this on Ebay. Maybe an option. http://http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA...-/320654215679

Yeah i saw that, Might end up having to send my ECU and ignition Barrel away to get new keys cut, My worry is that they will open her up and not seal it properly, Ive asked if they do and was told they dont open the ECU up to change the Code. Trustworthy though? who knows!

Yeah I thought I lost it today but turns out it was still in the ignition Lucky it was in a secure car park. Think I will sort it out ASAP.

There is a thread elsewhere here. If you have an existing key, the code can be copied from the transponder within, to a another blank key.
If you have no key, you are stuffed.

Yeah, the method I posted is only useful for creating more spare keys, won't work if you have lost all your keys.

    Bummer.

    {off to check if I have a spare key for my 600RR now}

I have worked on many HISS equipped Hondas and you need an existing key to program new keys. If you have lost all the keys your stuffed, new ECU time. There are two options available as you have discovered new ECU which will come with blank keys, the keys need to be cut to your locks key number required. If you don't have a key number start ringing local locksmiths to see if you can find someone who can cut keys to suit your locks or you will have to buy new locks as well. Second hand ECU is the other option with keys, you then can them program keys to suit your existing locks or if you can get the locks at good price just fit the whole lot (easier option no reprograming) Try the Australian wreckers for the second hand option, but if you do get the parcel marked DO NOT XRAY!!!! as the xray can cook the ECU (this happen to a customer of mine, not a happy man as he had to buy a second unit)

Can you locate the old owner? Worth a try to see if they still have the spare key as this will be the cheapest way out of this dilemma.

One other option is to fit a race ECU, these don't use the HISS system at all. Only drawback to this is that the race ECU's some times don't plug straight into the standard loom. If you can mod the wiring yourself this can be a cheaper option if you can't can be expensive to pay someone else to do the wiring.

If you have any other questions message me.

The reason Honda don't recode keys to the ECU is because you can't. Even if you open the ECU up you won't be able to program a new key, the key codes are electronic codes not switches locked into the main control chip that also controls the ignition timing and the hiss controls. You can't buy this chip or program it. This is to stop people who steal bikes from being able to bypass the HISS security.
Been down this road had a ECU to bits and it is not a option, and buy the way the ECU is epoxy filled you need special chemicals to get into it. Sorry for being the bearer of bad news.

Agree with the above your Honda dealer should be able to sort this without having to replace everything.

Mate I think you are stuffed. I had similar problem years ago with the CBR929RR. Don't think it was the HISS system but mine had the chip in key. Short story was the engine sump was cracked and leaked. Cheaper fix was buying an entire engine second hand from Aussie Wreckers.

New engine supposedly came from a model without a chipped key. Replacement motor fitted, ran fine. A few weeks later, middle of nowhere (Gissy) the engine just shut itself down. Hundreds of dollars to get me and bike home.

Honda NZ and Shop tried everything to get it to start including talking to Honda Japan. Different key/barrel, ECUs, replaced plugs, solenoids you name it. Every individual stage in the firing process was functioning - BUT no way would the engine fire up. I moved on and bought a new CBR1000RR and made sure I never lost the keys.

Eventually the shop replaced the entire wiring loom and parts/electrical system and got it to work.

The Key Code(To get a key cut) should be on the ignition barrel correct? So a new ECU/Keyset should be all i need?

Ive Contacted Several people who have said they can get it going, My guess is they use two new keys and program the ECU for the new keys.

Ive tried contacting the original owner, got as far back as 2 owners and the trail ran cold, ive priced a seccond-hand ECU/Key/Lock set and the cheapest ive found is 1200AUD, so not exactly cheap, thats every wrecker in NZ, Aus and England, Ebay, Trademe, etc nothing.

which brings me to a fork in the road.

    I can either:

Buy a second hand set from UK, Fit it and good to go $700NZD
Take it in to a "reliable source" and get the ECU code changed to a new key $900NZD - was told they didnt need to open the ECU up since they had all the tools.
