Stopping directly behind the car in front

Here is one of the reasons why I always pull up the middle at red lights on two lane roads, or stop on the middle line if I'm first at lights:

I recently stopped behind a car at a red light who was first in line, only to then move up the middle to the front. Moments later a car slammed in to the back of the one I was behind at a good 30-40km/hr -- If I hadn't moved I'd have been mangled.

.. Food for thought, at least.

Good video to have on hand to show the popo when they pull you up on filtering to the front.

If I can see a clear way to the front, I'll go there. Always frustrating when one SUV is over their lane and you can't fit through, dangerous being stuck in the middle too...

What traffic lights? Good advert for always planning ahead and choosing a position that keeps you safe, but not as an "excuse" for filtering to the front at lights.

Good job the bike avoided the car on their side of the road a few seconds earlier. As for the car in front...just stops with a queue of traffic on the other side and effectively blocks the road, doesn't bother using hazard lights...brake lights are off when sleepy SUV rider turns up...not to say they shouldn't be looking where they're going though

Well if those two riders hadn't missed the turnoff or lost their mate they wouldn't have stopped in such a stupid place when the road was already congested. No wonder the first car stopped.

    Bloody motorbikes.

I've often thought about installing a demolition charge that goes off when acceleration exceeds 2Gs. That way I get to take the texting duffs with me.

The other lane was a funeral procession and in some areas its good practice to stop to pay respect apparently.... Not that I have herd that before......

While not ideal, I really don't see the problem. They were to the right of the white line leaving room for other vehicles to pass wihtin their lane.
