I was an absolute Hitchhiker nut. IMO the best version is the original radio series. I first heard it when it went to air in NZ in the late '70s or very early '80s.
I have the radio series on CD; including the two later series that were made from Adams' writings after his death. I also have the original radio scripts in paperback and the TV series on DVD. However, I don't have the later movie. IMO they stuffed it up. It came across as cheesey and really didn't live up to the original.
Douglas would do anything to "not write the next bit". One episode (of the radio series) he didn't start until 20minutes before it went to air.
