Ive seen a study for this, cost of compliance would be higher than income so pointless.

Somehow that argument doesn't extend to policing speeding. We keep getting told that no revenue goes to the Police, yet their costs of ensuring compliance are huge.

And similarly with the ACC portion: annual costs for bikers and cyclists as groups are on a par (IIRC) but with at least ten times as many cyclists to collect it from and no ready way to identify them, it goes into the "not worth it" basket.

Add in the fact that roads are paid for from taxes paid by everyone (not from rego, etc.) and the inequity doesn't seem so severe, at least to me.

Back on topic, this thread has however provided me with some epically inept riding to watch.

If that does suit, then they can fuck off into thier own lane that will cost $600m to construct...it's only a one off cost of $600 per cyclists and job done.

So whats it going to be?
I'll bite. I own a couple of mountain bikes, ride them on the road every now and again (mainly to get to trails). The amount of fuckwit drivers (bikes, cars, and even worse are buses) I see around me scares me off the road.

I already pay rego for a car and a motorbike, so I sure as hell won't pay for registration on two mountain bikes... Increasing registration for cars so we can build decent roads that'll benefit every road user makes more sense.

I'd increase it more for the haters

Why not?...if you were to by another motorbike, would you pay the rego for that?

One might point out that a thread starting with a motorcyclist running down some very slow moving cyclists is perhaps not the best place to argue that the pedly's need safety taxing too

But, but, but... it's no-fault system. So they should be paying for their risk, no? (p/t)

I'm sure you remember all that guff as you had the stats nailed down. Ah those were the days. Or perhaps not.

I think the roading side of the rego for bicycles was going to be $4 or so. Kinda a waste of time tryin to collect it.

I thought rugby has higher ACC costs, why not rego that?

Rugby players pay ACC levies, and anyway they go out and deliberately smash into other people so of course they are going to get hurt so it is not an accident. Cyclists and motorcyclists don't go out with the same intentions, therefore any injury IS an accident.

    Simple really

....and they don't play rugby on the road, which (when it comes to cyclists) is the point. This is not about ACC in anyway, just the cycle to try and turn it around.

They want their bit of road?...help pay it directly though a user registration.

So you advicate a pointless tax that will cost more money than it makes?
