    North Shore and new (Juniper)

    Hello!

Yes new, just learning to ride- only about a month old really. Got one of those 'problem bikes' so its been fun learning.

On the shore, have yet the balls to take the bridge- its on my to do list

Have found that I stop traffic when I see a hot looking bike, and grin when I hear something yummy go past. My friends have told me I have the 'bike bug'

Please say hi, I don't bite....well not hard at least...... ok I wont draw blood.

Am keen to make new friends........(secret agenda is to drool over new bikes and learn more)

Hi Juniper, welcome to KB, that bridge you speak of?... just do it and cross it off the list, you will wonder what the angst was all about.

I swear that if the car next to me on the motorway sneezes I'll fall over!

I think if I saw a car sneeze I might end up doing the same.

Don't worry, in 6 months you'll look back with amazement at how far you have come, just get out there and practise.

I can't wait till the weather gets a tad better. I got caught in a thunder storm the other week. My leathers were soaked through!! And had to go over road works. Was my first time for a semi long ride by myself.
Was quite chuffed that I got home!

It's all about firsts when you're starting out and they're a cool reminder of where you're at and how not to be freaked out by them. First time into the CBD, first time on the motorway, all memorable. If you're in Wellington you also get to add things like - first time in a 50kmph cross wind, first time in a 90kmph crosswind! Also memorable but not necessarily enjoyable

The only time I've been scared for my life was in a crosswind. Bloody hell!

I'm so impaitent that I just want to get over all this learning and just be able to ride without my heart ending up in my throat every time. *stomps foot*

Yea, suppose so. The first time I went over the bridge in my car I was on the phone *shhh* and when I got over it was like "eh was that it?"

I'm just scared that I'll get caught in the wind or get freaked for some reason and wont be able to get back home.

I used to hate the wind with a passion, so much so that I wouldn't go out in it. You quickly learn down here your riding days get cut in half (or more) if you do that, so with time, I just got used to it.

Patience Grasshopper. These things too shall pass. I used to be paranoid about stalling on one of our many hilly main roads with lots of traffic about, and guess what, I stalled! I practiced my hill starts and now don't give hills or the stopping thereon a second thought. I'll seek these more challenging roads out for practice and by riding them regularly I can easily verify my progress and therefore improve my confidence.

The worst thing you can do is be impatient with yourself on a motorcycle. You're just adding to your own pressure and potentially a crash.

I'm just good at other things that I get annoyed that I should be good at this too.

*she says as shes been driving for 3 years and up untill starting to be on the back of a bike was the absloute worst driver*

Yea hills are not my friend. Thats my fear about riding to work is that there is a big hill and if i get caught in start-stop rush hour traffic on it I'll stall and roll back into somebody while trying to start and move forward.

Thats what the kitten teddy bear tied on the back of my bike is for.... to hopefully make people feel pity for me, and thus not get pissy.

I feel exactly the same! I know I should be patient, but I want to be able to commute on my bike and at the moment I've been settling for mini 1 hour long rides around the neighbourhood. I've ventured into town and towards takapuna, but I'm terrible at directions, so I don't wanna go out too far because I'm scared of getting lost hahaha.

OMG YES!! My GPS recently got stolen and without it I'm not sure I'll make it out of a paper bag!

Its the slow stop start riding that I have problems with. Oh and the going over 80km lol!
