    Revzilla feedback?

Has anyone ordered anything from their site before?

I'm looking at ordering a helmet from them, possibly the worst gear item you could want to buy online, but no one sells them here.

I'm a bit worried about being stung by customs on it's way through and if it's the wrong size, paying to send it back and then being stung again for a second time when it returns.

Anyone had any experience with them specifically or even with ordering high value gear from overseas and getting them through customs?

I've used RevZilla a couple of times and the shipping and service were first rate. 5 days for delivery the last item.

I'm assuming you've asked whether they can ship the helmet brand here? They won't ship Arai to NZ for eg, I asked them ages ago. Different shape to what we get here in NZ anyway so make sure you know what you're buying.

The last two items I bought from fc-moto.de were over the customs\GST limit but got through to me undetected. That's definitely better luck than management however.

Did you get stung by custom at all from Revzilla though? I emailed them asking if they'd label as a gift, so it'd get through, but they said they mark values clearly on the box for insurance reasons.

Boss has had good experiences with Revzilla. As for the perils of ordering overseas, possibly returning etc. that's the risk you run with shipping from overseas. Plenty of threads about this already.

It's also fraud and they can get into deep shit for doing it.

Were you aware of the You Shop service NZ Post operates for purchases from the USA? You do save money with purchases from the US but they're often offset to some degree by fairly high USPS postal costs. NZ Post has a warehouse over there which you can get stuff sent to and they ship it to NZ, often for much lower costs than you'd otherwise pay. It's a great service: http://www.nzpost.co.nz/products-ser...opping/youshop

The other thing is that some US manufacturers/suppliers won't ship to NZ or Australia because they can gouge higher prices by having a single distributor here. You can get round that by having stuff sent to the US address of NZ post. I bought a Sena digital comms set for nearly half the price it costs here, including shipping. I use them for all sorts of non-motorcycling purchases too.

Thanks Geoff! That's gold, and could help me out with a couple of things. I for one wasn't aware of it, even though I had investigated this type of service run by others.

I was checking out their site the other day for video reviews of an item I was thinking about purchasing locally. I didn't think their price would have been all that much cheaper landed.

I have a real love\hate relationship with YouShop. So handy but my god it's expensive. They calculate the charge on 'volumetric' weight, ie: the size of the package along with the weight. There are calculators on the site but you won't know the size of the packaging, unless you ask the shop first, but then they'd have to pack it for you and tell you the dimensions before you've committed to the purchase.

For example, my wife bought some knee high boots (non-motorcycle, so light weight), and the shoe box size parcel was $70NZD shipping. I bought a small laptop bag for a 15" MacBook Air, that was $105 shipping due to the stupidly oversize box they put it in...

Assuming they'll ship what you're after, buying direct from RevZilla is much cheaper. A Klim backpack was less than $50, a pair of gloves was $35.

As for customs, my purchases from RevZilla have all been under $400NZ, but as has been said, they won't commit fraud my falsifying customs declarations.

Yep, like any service, you do need to check costs for the particular item you're sending for. My latest purchase of a textile jacket from a US supplier was significantly cheaper through You Shop than a direct mail through the US Postal Service. Perhaps that was because it was in a soft padded bag rather than a darned great box full of air. At least it offers a viable alternative although as you say, you need to keep your eyes open!

From what I can work out if it's over $400 you'll likely get stung for GST even if it is a "gift". The gift part is more to do with duty than gst, a helmet is exempt from duty anyway, and gifts still attract GST (at least from what i can work out]). Gift usually means they hide the price, but something shaped like a helmet there's a reasonable chance a customs nazi will open it up.

I was reseaching some expensive helmets recently and decided exchange rate + bank charges & commission + delivery + gst didn't save me enough to forgo the CGA and ability to try it on/return.

Having said that I've bought jackets, boots, and pants online and have worked out cheaper. The most recent was with Revzilla and it they were grand. Excellent video reviews too.

Edit: Just remembered the make of lid i was looking at wouldn't ship direct so I had to factor in the cost of an intermediate like youshop (and all those eggs always "quote" less than what it actually costs).

Just for interest, I've ordered some non-bike gear from eBay USA to be shipped through the NZ Post YouShop warehouse in Portland Oregon.

Bought a pair of Levi 505 jeans for NZ $47 compared with up to NZ$130 which they sell for in NZ. Also bought a tapered diamond hone for sharpening our serrated kitchen knives for NZ$23. I have no idea what they cost in NZ as I couldn't find one. Total cost for shipping both items to NZ via YouShop is NZ $33.25 air express, hugely cheaper in this instance than using US postal service direct.
