Brian, loved your comment about the fish. Was reading a book by Bettina Selby once, she writes about cycle touring: in Palestine, up the Nile, whatever.
She also wrote a book about a cycle tour of Britain; on the West coast of England near the border with Scotland she saw people catching salmon in what is rated to be the most polluted water around Britain. She asked the fishermen why they were taking fish from those waters,
"Oh it's alright, we export these to France."[/QUOTE]
I should write a book
Having cycled around a few country's
Japan being the current one
And Australia being the next one
I'll get Oscar to proof read it.![]()

A nice cup of Earl Grey.
Grow older but never grow up
As usual, wild turkey rare breed.
Tea, resorted to Kenya Bold, as can't find Twinnings "Assam" anywhere.

Anyhoo don't forget to add to calendar 19th May, 27th July, and 31 August.
World whisky day, International whisky day, and Scotch whisky day.
glenfiddik 12y/o (how husa likes it, eh) single malt.
with pepsi. not sure if this was just a bad bottle or the dregs of a barrell, but flavour definitely less than expected/ remembered.
DO NOT RUIN WHISKY by placing ice, water, or any other shitte in it ( especially North Island water which is apparently shit flavoured at the moment).
True, Single malts (made from single grains) are ballpark made in Scotland whisky (note Irish is spelt Whiskey and non malted) comes from different areas, Speyside (generally smoother ones), Highland ( the good rich ones), Islay (the coastal flavour -saltier variety), and Island a bit of coastal and smokier) of course there are variables.
The people who comment Glenditch (or whatever) is best!, be reminded that like motorcycles there are different batches in that same manufacturer ( happens with band gear brands too,... people who know jack). Example; a Yammy 100 is never going to be as good as an XJR, nor a 12 year old XJR with a 15 year old XJR...you choose...same goes with whisky.
The making process mostly determined by the regurgitation in the stills, less the grain, water, peat used, then age process in barrels (oak-sherry-both) and storage conditions can result in a good or bad batch. On release from the home of theiving angels depends on where the whiskey has been siphoned from-the part of the barrel, its quite complex and a tester/taster blender person is employed to do this ( what a job).
So variable factors to get a same Glenwanker 12 YO from following batchs is difficult, hence a Glen 12 from 1980 will be different to what is on the shelf today albeit they try get it consistent. Example why some good ones are ridiculously pricey, as say from a batch of 1000 bottles of primo whisky, over time most will be imbibed as it should, what remains is in collections and/or traded as rare bumping the price/value up.
Unfortunate the common ones pawned by liqour outlets on special are not great and put you off for life (avoid red label, drumguish, fettercairn, etc). Even good ones can be flawed with sulpur, subject to the "decoy bottle" or used to clear your neighborhood drains ( being tightfisted scottish probally drink it under duress with ice-water, fizz lol).
And until one gets over the burn of whisky ( achieved by drinking it for a fortnight) one cannot find the true hidden flavours and delights in the water of life (or not).
SCOTCH, is a blend of whisky where lower grade single malts are blended with single grains to get the consistent finish you expect to get with your favourite drop.
My favourites ( to right of wheel) are blends over single malts, its all a matter of taste, some of the cheaper ones are better than the dearer ones. The Jim Murray bible is well worth having if you want to collect whisky.
My preference for scotchs are Johnnie Walker Black, Teachers Highland Cream, Fat Trout, Highland Park 12, Banknote, Black Grouse, Isle of Skye. ( All reasonably priced).
Single malt can't beat The Glenlivet 12 but has been discontinued and its replacement not as good.
Highland...Dalwhinnie 15, and Glenmorangie.
Irish whiskey Redbreast, Bushmills Black Bush.
Indian yes...some of the best whisky made these days, Amrut Indian and Fusion are must trys.
New Zealand favourite is not peat smoked but manuka smoked by Thomson is called " Progress report"...very nice.
Good deals if shopping on line from Whiskyandmore
