    Would you do/like this?

I have a PA role. It is busy and varied and I love it. No two days the same. Very, very busy

Today my boss asked me to go and buy a massage voucher for his wife (it is their wedding anniversary today), then he asked me to buy a card for her.

I was a bit taken aback really. Of course I went off and bought her a voucher and a card, not mushy (he did not want that), funny (have to be careful here as my idea of funny and his are poles apart) so I got something non offensive and not mushy. I would hate to have received it.

    Anyway, he is delighted.

What do you lot think of that?

As a hubby, would you do that?

As a wife, would you be happy that happened?

She will find out in due course as she helps me with the accounts, I used my company credit card, and she reconciles that account.

Personally, if my lovely man was so friggen busy he could not stop to do "something" then I would love a bunch of wilting petrol station flowers, and an "early night" over something he thought would be nice, and sent someone else out to buy.

    Whatcha reckon?

Jesus christ woman. The first rule of fight club is that you don't talk about fight club... let alone splash it all over an internet forum for the entire female species to read. Now it's time to do the honest thing... start bribing him.

I don't think he'll be expecting to be dropped in the shit with his Mrs for it.

Which will happen because shit like that means something to women an his wife will get her feelings hurt by it even though it's a totally innocent bloke thing to do,,,,which you well know anyway.

Anyway,I Hope you get used to never being trusted by the guy again because he didn't say "tell my wife" did he ?

Me,,I'd sack your arse first chance I got.

a] What would be the difference between that and, say, buying the same things online and getting them posted out?

b] What if while you were doing that, he was busy with something that would continue to pay the bills, put food on the table and keep the roof over their head, or maybe just buy that trip to Paris next year?

c] If she wanted to leave him for her karate instructor, she should just do it already.

d]Is the issue about her present, or your tasking?

It's fairly common for busy business owners to use their PA for personal shopping and errands. It's one of those roles where the "other duties as required" is a major part of the working job description.

I employ my daughter in such a role - she often does shopping and errands for me. She got sent off in my car one day to pick up my mother from Cromwell - a full 8-hour day after pick-up and drop-off.

I can understand the issue of "making the effort", but I'm sure the wife will appreciate his priorities when she goes out with the credit card herself...

On that topic, he's obviously putting the cost through the business. Sending an employee to do the purchases further enhances the legitimacy of the transaction.

My late Dad takes the prize for the best non-effort - he made Mum choose her own birthday card...

Couldn't you have got Nanna to call your daughter, then got daughter to take a day off to spend with gran and stung her for a day of annual leave?

Sadly, no. While she'll follow most "other duty" directions, there is no doubt who is actually in charge in the office...

I'm not sure I see it as much of an issue as he knew what he wanted to get - it would be slightly different if he had asked you to find something for her...

The only reason he did was cos his last PA put it in his outlook calendar and he gets a reminder the day before every year. DAMHIK
