Fancy yourself as a mechanic or engineer?

Alright so basically I'm just fishing to see what interest may or may not be of there.

In my garage I have an '88 cbr250. Sitting in pieces and very un-loved. I'm trying to decide if I want to use it as a track bike or just get rid of it. So what I'm looking for is to see if there is anybody out there with an interest in working on bikes and who has the knowledge but no money to fuel their interest. Somebody who is willing to do it for free because to be blunt, I can barely feed myself. And somebody who doesn't mind that it won't have all the fancy parts because I don't want to spend much on it.

Yes I'm completely aware of what I'm asking for and no my expectations aren't high.

I live in west Auckland and have a garage to work out of as well. There is no time frame on this either, it's purely for fun and because I'd like to race but don't have the mechanical knowledge.

Hope this is in the right place and ill just keep my eyes open.

    Owen.

So you want somebody to rebuild your bike for free?

    Good luck with that.

I've been feeling a bit horny lately but I can't really be arsed with all that pulling carry on and was wondering if someone would log onto some Pervy sites & give me a shandy while clicking all the best links at the same time ideally using their credit card as I'm saving for a night on the prozzies.

It's actually not in that many pieces. I stripped the fairings and tank to paint. Parts required are minimal. Engine itself is fully intact but has been sitting for over a year. In terms of converting to a track bike I'd say more stripping is involved rather than assembling. I'm no expert though.

Also it's not about trying to get a free rebuild. I'd hope that who ever gets involved takes an interest in racing and would like to play an active part in setting it up and maybe even racing it as well.

Oh and I thought it went without saying.. I'm more than happy to get my hands dirty, I just don't know what I'm doing. More than happy to put the effort in should I decide to make something of it.

Anyway can we get back to talking about Buckets as this is a bucket thread.

Buckets have two engine capacity classes:
    F4
    2 stroke 55-100cc
    2 stroke 55-125cc air cooled
    4 stroke 55-150cc
    F5
    2 stroke 0-50cc
    4 stroke 0-100cc air cooled

Ok well to be honest I haven't looked into what classes this bike would be eligible for, so based on that information I'm assuming this was the wrong place to post this?

My understanding of buckets was wrong. I didn't realise that the engine capacity of a 250 was too high.

    I never knew '88 CBR250 parts were interchangeable with '89 GSX750s.

Where abouts out west are you? I'm looking at starting a road going track bike project in June. Haven't done too much on the cbr - had an mc22 that I can clean carbs, brake calipers, and a 600 that I built...don't know anything about racing though!! I like playing with bikes though!

Alright, to those of you taking the piss, it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I will say this though.

If I had the knowledge and time to share, knowing that I was helping grow the sport by getting more people involved. I would definitely help where I could. So if you have neither thats fine.

Even if nothing else, all that I achieve through this is being pointed in the right direction, then I will have achieved what I set out to do. If it becomes apparent that this sport is only for those with deep pockets then ill just sell the bike as I had planned to from the beginning and it's of no loss to me, except for the potential enjoyment I may have gained through trying.

That's pretty much all I have to say about that.

Oh and Icemaestro, I sent you a pm with that information.

Mate you are not growing anything. Buy a tennis racquet and join a local club, it will be cheaper in the long run.
