I'd help out if I was in the area![]()
of course we took the piss. You come on here saying you wouldn't mind racing your 250 (despite being in the bucket section) & say you can hardly afford to feed yourself, can someone help me for free.
OK some quick research:
Typical big bike raceday $90 entry +$35 transponder
MNZ licence $100 for club, ($200 for national)
Back protector, Onepiece leathers, helmet less than 5yrs old unscuffed (insert $ amount)

Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.
I did something similar to this request of this thread. For a friend.
Every fork in the road he chose the wrong way. He would of had the thing ready in a weekend if he had listened to me.
I ended up spending hours and hours sorting him out with nice engine brackets and converting wheels and basically sorting out a completely fucked frame. Everytime he came over to work on it he was a little bitch and wanted to go home after 10 minutes.
I should of given up much earlier.
Anyway now he wants to sell it, because he brought a piece of shit 1987 carb'd 4L 6 cylinder ford ute, and can't afford the thing.
Pretty much put me off helping anyone ever again.
So the point i'm making is, you better be fucken passionate about it, before starting a project. Before you waste someone else's time, and never complete the thing. It won't be easy and it will be very time consuming. If you have any doubts or your a Starter and not a finisher. Dont even bother. Save up and buy a bike ready to race.
you gave your time & effort for a finished goal of helping a friend get on the racetrack to race. Not for his financial betterment.
Amount of bikes I've helped with or given parts for that never seen the racetrack. I try & concentrate on people who are already there & proper keen.

Yes, admitadly I didn't realise buckets were only referring to those lower cc bikes, and I also exadurated the point about barely being able to feed myself. I wouldn't have a bike in the first place if I couldn't survive day to day living costs. What I was meaning is I can't afford to be just throwing lots of money at it when there's the possibility of trying to get things done myself.
I accept that there are un avoidable costs as you mentioned above. Including things like tyres and petrol. I'm willing to put money towards stuff like that obviously, i just can't come up with it at the snap of a finger and will have to save for things like that.
I already have a fair bit of riding gear as well.
I had already decided long ago that I'm going to get into racing bikes, it was just a matter of finding the right time when I'm not so committed with other things and am in a position to support it financially. Seeing as I happen to have a spare bike right now I figured I might be able to make use of it.
Maybe what I need to be doing is selling it and buying a lower cc bike. I'm not sure because to be honest, I don't really know where the best starting point is to get into racing. I'm just trying to make use of what I already have.
ok well lets start again, I'm warming to you a little as you write legibly, which is often uncommon on these threads.
Trundle along to a AMCC bucket meeting at Mt wgtn & have a look to see if it is for you. It is the cheapest common motorsport. Meeting dates are usually posted in this section.
If so, clean up what you have & TM it & find a racebike.

I'm also in both Kyle's camp and Dave's now. Have "helped" a lot of people where help means "you do it for me and I'll watch and then lose interest" and am starting to warm.
If you want to go racing and budget is an issue I'd definitely suggest buckets, especially given where you are and the bike you are looking at converting. 250 four would work if the Vic club was your local, not so much being in Auckland. If you want to have a look at buckets turn up next weekend at Mt Wellington. I'll be there in a big shit old white transit van, if you turn up on Saturday with riding gear you might even get a wobble around the track if you can convince me you aren't going to wreck my bike in such a way that I wouldn't be on track on Sunday.
Stock is best
Turn up at the track and go from there. you can ask question and look at lots of bikes. will give you an idea of where to go from there

there is getting advice and pointers and you will be away..
Ive seen a lot of people over time throw a shit load of money at crap only still to have crap. ( just costly )
best thing to do is not repeat other peoples mistakes..
Sell it and buy quallman (Kyle's) well sorted bucket, much cheaper faster way to get into racing.
Before i rip into you.
My suggestion, Sell your spare bike. For hopefully 500 - 600 (maybe with a running engine? and possibly rego on hold?). Save a few hundred and keep your eye out for bikes on.
Its the logical thing to do if your not mechanically able.
Head along to the track in the mean time and ask/beg to hire or borrow a bucket. To get a sense of it.
Ok please forgive me for asking, I have looked and searched.
As far as I can see, the next meeting is 19/20 July. Am I correct? Or are there more regular meets that I can't find times or dates for?
As long as I haven't got anything that coincides with the date and time, I'll be there.
Thank you for giving this a second look and not dismissing me at face value. Sometimes the way I come across and the way I go about doing things does not convey my intentions well. I think the discussion as per the original post I made needs no further attention at this stage. I'll attend some bucket meets and assess where I want to be from there.
Nope. June 8th and 9th.
