    Top-end clutch slip, ER6N?

    Hi there I have an issue with my clutch.

    For the most part its fine but under hard acceleration it slips at the top end but it is before the Rev limiter kicks in because if i slowly go through the range i hit that at 11,500rpm and when it slips its around 8,500 9000 rpm.

    I have been told the clutch springs in the er6's are weak and that after market ones would resolve the issue. Have asked mechanic to check they said adjustment etc was fine.

    Should i see another mechanic or go for this spring idea?

    Also the gear box can click loudly into first and click through some of the other gears to was told this was part of wear in and a Kawasaki thing but I've now done 12,000km any thoughts are the two related?

    clutch slip always appears most up in the top end, in the lower gears under acceleration its not usually apparent
    at that mileage it must be the springs. id do springs and fibre plates myself, but thats a habit from abusing
    dirtbike clutches, are you handy with tools at all? its an easy job, or ask your mechanic for a quote

    I found after market springs and kevlar plates for it but wondered if just the springs would fix the issue also the way a couple of the gears click made me think could possibly be adjustment. I have the tools to do it and know how to its just not something i want to dedicate a Saturday to without second opinions :-)

    fair enough mate, im much the same with my car n van, gearbox issue may be specific to that model
    have you heard or read that its common?

    Heard the slip is very common but not the clicking

    I'm hoping that the slip is as simple as the springs but would it be worth doing the plates i mean they are still pretty much brand new?

    Could be adjustment to though thats the thing not sure what the exact issue is have an idea but that's it

    Is it still under warrenty? If so - dont fuck with it but insist they sort it out....

    If not - start with a basic service and clutch adjustment. ie is the clutch lifting squarely etc because if its not then that could explain all your issues. Yes - sometimes makers get a duff batch of springs etc but if its under a warrenty I'd be insisting its fixed...

    I had a similar issue on my SV and it happened after an oil change. After a while it just went away, but every time I change the oil it comes back while the oil is still 'new'.

    I just put up with it, if and when it happens. Like you, it happened at low kms ( 14,000ish I think ).

    It is under warranty so may have to try that first :-)

    Your clutch slip is probably happening because you keep trying to drag off Hayabusas and from doing skids at NASS.

    Don't void your warrenty bro, its those cunts problem until it runs out. But like I told you a few weeks ago man, even an oil change could do it some good, stop it slipping while your powering up the albany highway anyway.

    True but as you know i service it to the book so the oil is never more than 6000ks old because as you said i use it as intended :-)

    Service at 1000 km 6000km now 12,000km being done tomorrow but issue has been there after each change

    Will harass them under warranty

    I had the same probelm on an er-6f, it seems its quite common. I replaced my clutch springs with these http://www.blueridgeperformance.net/brpengines.html (about half way down) and haven,t looked back.
    You might wanna start some hand strengthening exercises though.

    I moved the servicing of my bike to another certified work shop they had a look re adjusted things and used motul oil instead of the kawasaki stuff and it hasn't played up at all so far

    Will see how things go

    Okay didnt read other posts like they say leave to kawaski dealer to fix.. it should not free rev though

    stick to your guns. u know it sound werid and wont drive as well when sliping but flick up few hunder or thousand

    revs.

    nah buddy thats normal for bit noise on sift to first from netural its the chain. dont

    worry used bug me thought was something i did .

    yes sounds like clutch slipage springs can get weak on any bike through heat , use

    how many kms has your bike done ? . my vfr 750 slip like that same range on full throttle

    IS the clutch nearly out before it start to bike taking of from stoped.

    What bike mechanic i assumuption here means your clutch ajusted right at lever for play.

    What kind oil in your bike if due for a change u chould make sure oil u change to

    Isint a car typye of one that has alot additives that can promote a tiny bit slippage etc

    Castrol gtx 2 .

    But say new set clutch plates and new clutch springs do the trick. thats what i did.

    the internet for springs plates as package stick to good brands ebc etc .

    Just get non racing ones just heavy duty is fine

    Motul oil 10w40

    12,000km oil changed every 6000km after first 1000 km change

    Clutch almost completely out before grab but I use shorties

    Think it's the springs at this point or rev limiter set super early
