LankyBastard (Ash) is an awesome group leader, a good constant speed on or just above legal, he knows how to keep a group together, having riders of similar mind-set helps. We (the slower group) generally turn up 5-7 minutes after them. You can tag on with us if you like Murray? another experienced rider mid pack wouldn't go a miss, and ikiebike might like the scenic tour

I wouldn't load it up with too much stuff, I found mine to be quite uncomfortable on long rides, investing in a tank bag this time round and less wight in the mach 5

I've borrowed myself a pair of sports bike pannier bags. They may look dorky but they will sure be useful. Means I can bring my winter pjs!!

Those along with my tail bag might mean her ass end is bigger than my ass end!!

+1 for saddle bags. I always have mine on the bike with my rain gear inside. My tank back has my everyday stuff, like sunglasses, money, tire gauge etc. So I look everyday like I'm going touring when I'm actually just heading to work Very convenient though when I need to do some shopping.

I didn't know there were special sports bike ones, though. How are they different from other panniers?

I had a backpack on at the L's Angels ride to the 'naki and can definitely not recommend that. Although I might have packed a bit too much, too. This time I know that I don't need things like spare shoes anyway

Not too sure, think it could be shorter and smaller? http://www.cycletreads.co.nz/product...rts_panni.aspx

The thing I like about riding is not having all the crap with me I could. I'm a typical chick, the bigger the handbag the more crap I carry around.

I'd still prefer someone else to carry the limoncello though. A) they are not my bags and B) I don't think they would even fit the bottles upright.

    Ditto.

Ditto again. Although I don't generally use a tank bag. That stuff goes in the other pannier and the top box is reserved for my 15" laptop that I carry to work daily.

When I go camping I add to that a Kriega 30L drybag on the pillion seat. It's all pretty full by the time I load up with tent, bedding, kitchen etc...

When it was just me and the FZ8 with the large pack, I would always have it directly over the rear wheel, rather than hanging off the back, I got some unwanted movement with it once like that. Packs have a soft base and tend to fold over the rack a tad when heavily packed. Reversing it and having it on the seat worked better.....for me.

The Honda on the other hand?...didn't matter what you stacked on it, double pack/two tank bags (one on top of the pack) and both Anne and myself...get into 5th and just stay there..
The GSX is the same, except hard luggage all round. The two panniers stay on and I only add the box when we go away for more than a night.

I am quite chuffed at my surprising folding goddessness. I managed to pack my riding pants (those big armoured unattractive things) into my tiny tail bag. Along with the next days top, nickers, socks and light sleeping attire.

Depends if I need my winter pjs or not I might not need to even wear the panniers.

Good news is, if you actually wear those pants when riding instead of having them in your tail bag you will have so much more space in that bag...
