Scrapped CBR250 1989 MC19

For sale is my beloved CBR250 - my first bike. Unfortunately the cooling system failed, and there's a hole in one of the pistons.

Everything else is still there in a tired condition (been sitting for months). Before the piston went, it was in excellent shape. I'd recently replaced the fuel lines, cleaned the carbs and cleaned the fuel tank of rust. I'm not sure what condition the brakes are in.

The rego is on hold for 12 months starting March. The chassis is in excellent condition given the build quality back then.

If you know a guy with an engine this would make for a cheap bike. There's a guy scrapping an engine on trademe for $800, so you'd have a pretty powerful bike for $1600 plus a bunch of labour.

Viewing is encouraged. Ideally I want to get rid of the lot, but you're welcome to make an offer on whatever part you need as long as you have the tools to come pull it off.

It's actually not that easy to source the parts. This model is long out of production. I gave up in the end and got a GSX250

as for the pistons,

Try find something out of another bike with the same size piston or a wrecked MC19.

I was able to get pistons, rings and valve sets of a 86 CBR 400 recently...even when part numbers came up not available through NZ Honda...It just meant those parts hadn't been ordered for some time and they just delete that number...but they were certainly available X japan...

That's the difference between a parts guy and a parts guy that know what they are doing...

Was curious if it may have been my old bike, last I seen it was looking pretty rough around that area, doesnt look like it though,
Are you parting it out or selling complete? I may know someone interested.

I'm pretty new to this game. Guess I don't know the right people to source the parts.

I did look on ebay, but never managed to find much. I spent a good (naive I guess) week looking around various places in NZ and on eBay for a piston set.

That said, I'm not so interested in getting it going again. I don't have the tools for it any more (I used my Dad's until I moved out) and I have a replacement bike.

Piecing it out would be an option, but I'd much rather get rid of the lot. If I don't manage to get rid of it all, I'll offer it again in pieces. I'm open for price negotiation if I'm asking too much. There's a guy on trademe selling parts, and I reckon he's charging heaps.

AFAIK OEM pistons are no longer being made for the MC19 motor, but you can get MC22 ones or Chinese ones.
MC22 ran a different gudgeon/rod width from memory and the compression height is different and the pistons need to be machined on top, or combustion chamber done to get the correct squish.
But it has been done, you can fit MC22 parts in it

You may get lucky and find some NOS parts, but currently it wouldn't be worth the hassle as MC19s are not rare or desirable yet
