    GSXR1000K4

"And he did sup upon the Gixxers abundant torque, yay even unto the inital 6000 run in limit and did perform downhill wheelies and multitudinous nefarious and illegal manouvers.
    And it was good!"

OK - initial impressions 600ks after a shaky (and slidy, graunchy) start.
Took Bess (for that is indeed what she is called) for a run north today - meaning to go to whangarei or environs - but it looked a bit wet so diverted to Mangawhai Heads, then back down SH16 (thanks to the 2 guys on the 999 and K5 750 for the tow). Thence across to Clevedon, Hunua, Bombay, back to Riverhead Rd, Silverdale, Kaukap, etc etc.
I always ease into new bikes for the first 1000 k or so, and if you are not used to modern 1000cc sportbikes and you’re an old prick like me, this is definitely a good idea. In theory, the initial 6K limit for first 500K sounds restrictive, but its not - 160K or thereabouts. Coming from 30 yrs of 750’s a change in thought patterns are in order. Riding quick is a new technique - gives slow in fast out a whole new dimension with a wave of effortless power from 2000rpm in any gear. This thing gets better as it gets faster – the suspension, which is a bit firm at around town speeds, is a lot more compliant with a bit of pace on. This bike is in its element in more open, flowing, sinuous roads like SH16. It feels planted and as you get used to it, more able to put it where you want to – I was pleasantly surprised, although I feel a bit of fiddling with the settings coming up. Comparo with the guy on the 750 – he was quicker into the corners – I was certainly quicker out and on the straighty bits!

Riding possie is not as comfy as the SP, but, the bike feels smaller and lighter and quite nimble, as you get used to it.

Bitches – don’t like the twitchy, micrometer like throttle at slow speeds. Don’t like slow, tight twisties, like Peak Rd, partly due to throttle. Tends to push the front too readily at slower speeds – could just be due to lots of thrust . . .And the 012’s leave me feeling a little underwhelmed.

Hey SP have some Front & back end setting's that you could try . I run them & they are good haven't changed since setting . Let me know if you would like to try them . They sort out that front end trouble you mentioned . I didn't like the 012's myself , run a M1 front & Z6 back . Enjoy & keep the bloody thing up on it's wheels when ya get the Yoshy onto it !!

Dude i would'nt mind those settings. Had my suspension set up at cycletreads, and i think its a bit hard for NZ backroads, i get thrown all over the road on bumpy sections

Mate, at the risk of sounding like a dig, I can't understand why the hell anyone would get someone else to set up their suspension. Everyone rides and prefers a different feel from their bike. If you need someone to help you, by all means ask someone to translate the problems you're having into the adjustments to make.

It's far more rewarding and you'll have a better idea of how your bike handles.

    That's my $0.02 anyway.

OHH My son we must explore settings with great care .
Very important --do One thing at a time otherwise you wont know what was an improvement and what wasn't
How did ya find the beast after I fiddled with tyre pressures.

FFS... yes, you ride hard and your settings are right for you... that doesn't mean they're any good for anyone else. It comes down to tyres, riding style, rider weight and any number of other things.

Not saying these are the be all to end all . Just that they could be good to try . Have set up to other GSXR1000's with these setting's . Both different rider's & weight . Apart from 2 adjustment's they couldn't believe the difference they made . Abit like trying different tyre's is it not ? Ya don't know unless you try . Everyone want's the best out of their bike's ! Doesn't take much to achieve this with some experimenting

Fair enough... there is more experince there than just with your own settings then. And while I'm at it, the "FFS" in my original was probably not the intro I should have used.

Had my first ever ride on a K4 Gixxer thou today (thanks G) - what a missile!

Sublime handling (a little quick on turning in for my style of riding though), blistering acceleration, and a front end that loves to reach for the skies (escpecially in low gears with a little bump in the road, wooohooo).

A fine piece of machinery IMO.
