"And he did sup upon the Gixxers abundant torque, yay even unto the inital 6000 run in limit and did perform downhill wheelies and multitudinous nefarious and illegal manouvers.
And it was good!"
OK - initial impressions 600ks after a shaky (and slidy, graunchy) start.
Took Bess (for that is indeed what she is called) for a run north today - meaning to go to whangarei or environs - but it looked a bit wet so diverted to Mangawhai Heads, then back down SH16 (thanks to the 2 guys on the 999 and K5 750 for the tow). Thence across to Clevedon, Hunua, Bombay, back to Riverhead Rd, Silverdale, Kaukap, etc etc.
I always ease into new bikes for the first 1000 k or so, and if you are not used to modern 1000cc sportbikes and youre an old prick like me, this is definitely a good idea. In theory, the initial 6K limit for first 500K sounds restrictive, but its not - 160K or thereabouts. Coming from 30 yrs of 750s a change in thought patterns are in order. Riding quick is a new technique - gives slow in fast out a whole new dimension with a wave of effortless power from 2000rpm in any gear. This thing gets better as it gets faster the suspension, which is a bit firm at around town speeds, is a lot more compliant with a bit of pace on. This bike is in its element in more open, flowing, sinuous roads like SH16. It feels planted and as you get used to it, more able to put it where you want to I was pleasantly surprised, although I feel a bit of fiddling with the settings coming up. Comparo with the guy on the 750 he was quicker into the corners I was certainly quicker out and on the straighty bits!
Riding possie is not as comfy as the SP, but, the bike feels smaller and lighter and quite nimble, as you get used to it.
Bitches dont like the twitchy, micrometer like throttle at slow speeds. Dont like slow, tight twisties, like Peak Rd, partly due to throttle. Tends to push the front too readily at slower speeds could just be due to lots of thrust . . .And the 012s leave me feeling a little underwhelmed.
