    The army used to conduct jungle warefare training at Tekapo - in ice and snow during winter. This before the guys went to Malaya and Vietnam.
    It's thought that the troops were being taught how to avoid getting frostbite.

    The training must have been effective though, because nobody got frostbite in Malaya or Vietnam.
