I like Linux and all - but I will never walk around telling people that it is the most awesome thing on 4 cores. Android at least has a prerequisite for hardware.

As soon as Ubuntu actually get people buying phones then I will start seeing a way forward. I think it is unlikely that Android will get people buying Chromebooks
but, penguins are so much cooler than a) apples and b) windows.

there are a few android ports for buntu...

fuck. buntu 12, which i had the misfortune to witness last week, looks just like some kind of gay app thing that everyone else is making.
what i'd like to see is someone installing it on a TV.
    fuck DRM and shit.

But why can't the clever penguins figure out the equivalent of making a volume snapshot of a running server?

In the real world, small businesses don't wanna pay for hot swappable hardware raid systems in order to have their systems backed up properly whilst still in operation. Windoze manages this. AFAIK most implementations of linux don't. ZFS may change this in future but its well overdue

    Yes, FS and operating system

IF by "fuck around" you mean implement, then the benefits and drawbacks of the different RAID systems are well documented.

At CPIT they're to poor to put SSDs in the workstations so they use RAID0 HDDs. It's much better than JBOD obviously for things that benefit from the extra read/write speeds.

Anything other than raid0 is for pussies.

There is no substantial benefit of ntfs over ext. The fact that windows can read it isnt an advantage.

Perhaps in an SSD array with proper trim support and a bloody good backup. Personally, given the number of raid 0 failures I've had compared to the minimal performance benefit, I wouldn't bother anymore. Spending the money on a higher performance SSD as opposed to 2 x cheaper SSD's makes more sense for me.

I never said NTFS has substancial benefits and I wouldn't expect there to be as NTFS has been around since about 1994.

Given that you're rarely doing sequential reads then unless you're using the workstations for particularly disk intensive applications, your real world "task" improvement would be lucky to be 5% using raid 0. Raid 0 does impress your mates when copying files though Perhaps that choice was partly driven to guarantee their IT guys extra work (double the failure rate) and perhaps get through their stocks of traditional drives quicker (in order to bring forward SSD deployments)
