Agree, anyone dying because people can't work out their differences is a tragedy. But, if you had a weapon that could wipe out a pugnacious nation wholesale (with minimal losses to your nation), well, that might keep that aggressive nation in check. MAD huh? Also, crazy as it sounds more effective weapons end wars faster. One just has to hope one's on the winning team.

Conscientious objectors to the front of the line please...

Sounds really stupid - but its not, it will be the first unmanned craft to do so successfully and be reused. The Russian and US attempts up until this point have been either manned or 1-way-trips.

Be concerned about what they want to do next and have been developing on the ground to bolt on to this bad boy.
The reason why they needed a beta or test vehicle to be 100% before hand is because if something goes wrong - it goes wrong badly.

They suspect next stage is some type of weapon - from lazers to solid magnesium rods. But first you have to prove you can get it into space unmanned and back again first.

We had a good view last time it happened and got good photo for the gear I had. (really need big telephoto to do moon justice).

Thing is the moon always looks the same everytime as it doesn't rotate on its axis relative to us.
