New bikeless member from the Tron (Cullyn)

Hey everyone,

Thought I would join because I am planning on learning to ride / get my licence next year but what I really want to do at the moment is a bike project.
been watching a lot of videos on youtube as you do where they chop and change their bikes to fit how they want and I would really like to do a bobber or cafe racer project. What I was wondering is, is there anywhere here in NZ where I could find derelict bikes, parts and what have you? so I could try and start cheap?

finally letting myself do this after wanting to ride for years, it is my reward to myself for doing well in class this year haha. So yeah, just looking at the options at the moment.

Any input would be appreciated

hi and welcome

nice idea, and very do-able but its a case of many many options
id reccomend working out what kinda bike your after..probably
a jap bike of less than 500cc to suit the lams rules (learner approved motorcycles)
...say a gn250 or an older gs450 or similar...a bike that lends itself to classic styled
customising easliy (air cooled engine, single or twin cylinder, twin shocks etc)
these bikes are often cheapish and still reliable yet easy to learn on
i sold a 1976 cg125 to my nephew a few months ago and he's doing the
flat tracker/cafe inspired thing with it..nice n simple
and he uses it as daily transport whilst he accumulates bits etc
start off with modest customising plans and you cant go wrong

Hey thanks for the comments guys.
I remembered a few days after I started this thread that my grandfather had an old bike gathering dust (for the last 40 years or so) in his garage and he has said I can have it.
Now I just need to get it to Hamilton to start fixing it. The bike is an old Suzuki T90 and its the normal version not the wolf which I'm told is the version with the up and over exhaust not the under swinging one like ill have (although I've also been told the style of exhaust was probably the only difference?).
So I am planning on stripping it down and rebuilding it (although I may end up changing the head? to at 125cc instead of sticking with 90cc). once its fixed up ill decide if I am keeping it stock visually or going with a board track racer inspired custom design based on some concepts I've drawn up

really looking forward to getting started.

Or do it up like a TS90 for something a little more adventure looking/capable. Good score anyway, you can have a heap of fun on a little bike like that.

just found out I'm getting the bike on Friday.. haha feel like a a little kid on the lead up to christmas.

And as for the TS90, thanks for the input but I have never personally been interested in farm/ dirt bikes. The google search brought up a lot of pictures I haven't had a geez at yet though including t90's so cheers
